π΅π‘ Bryn 3rds Match Report π‘π΅
Ystradgynlais AFC B 0 - Bryn Rovers 3
Diolch to our team sponsors .
Undefeated in the last 6 games, Bryn Rovers 3rds were looking to add to their impressive record with a victory away to Ystradgynlais B. The fact that the teams will meet again in 2 weeks in the Division 2 Cup Semi-Final only added more incentive to produce a positive performance that could be carried into that fixture.
Team captain Kieran Rees returned from his injury and new signing Ethan Jones started in the middle to face his old club. A sudden downpour minutes before kick off saw that the pitch was thoroughly muddied.
The conditions didn't deter Bryn Rovers' style of play though, and they started the game with intensity, pressing the opposition and trying to win the ball back high up the field and, when in possession, the ball was worked through the midfield and out wide to the wingers. The first goal came within 6 minutes of the first whistle, when a pass was lifted over the top from the middle by Ethan Jones and hit on the half-volley by Ryan O'Sullivan which rifled past the keeper.
5 minutes later a lovely through ball by Kieran Rees was pounced on again by O'Sullivan and smashed home to double his tally and take his goal count up to 11 for the season. The goal was scored during an advantage played by the referee after a seriously late challenge from behind on Kieran Rees (foreshadowing).
With the conditions as they were, Ystrad played the game long down the flanks trying to stretch the Bryn defence but after a shaky first 15 minutes defending on the counter, the Bryn defence were solid throughout. The half ended on a sour note, with players sliding hard into challenges and the physicality of the two teams saw a flurry of yellow cards being produced by the referee.
The second half was a much more controlled performance from Bryn, and despite being temporarily down to 10 men - after a sin-bin for Kieran Rees for commenting on opposition late challenges - the team managed to find a third and decisive goal. The ball was lifted into the box by Ethan Jones from a free kick for a late challenge and with strong aerial pressure from Emlyn Hopkin, Ystrad failed to clear and the ball bounced, across the goalmouth for Jason Carrod to finish.
Bryn finished the game comfortably with the backline of Dyfan Lewis, Ellis Myles, Tristan Evans and Rian Aylward working closely together to limit the pressure on keeper Shaun Lane, who gained yet another impressive clean sheet. Up the other end of the pitch Man of the Match, Mike Scourfield, starred on the wing, constantly looking for the ball and tracking back and putting in a solid defensive shift too.
Confidence will be high and we look forward to the cup fixture on Pontardawe 3G in a few weeks time.
