The Odeon in is to close for good in November. Set to become a church.

It's always a massive shame when a cinema closes but old Odeon picture palaces shutting are the worst. See Bromley Picturehouse which was once an Odeon and Woolwich which later on became the Coronet. Also the one in Eltham. Many examples.

Breaking news for South East London pubgoers: The Guildford Arms in Greenwich has officially confirmed it will close for good on Sunday 27th September. Time is running out to say goodbye to a true neighbourhood institution. 💔

WASTED LONDON
A whole block of flats has been left empty for four years, with residents questioning why a housing association has let this happen, amid a severe shortage of housing and long waiting lists for affordable homes.

Just off Queen’s Crescent, in Herbert Street, stands a four-storey block with a basement and five one-bedroom flats.

The block, owned by Riverside Housing Association, was built in the early 2000s and the New Journal understands the flats were used as supported living accommodation.

Metal hoarding and a large metal door now protect access to the derelict building and windows in the block are broken and shattered.

The block has been void of tenants since 2022, valuable one-bedroom properties that residents have said could have been brought back into use long ago.

A big thank to everyone for coming to our rally yesterday. This was our biggest one and we are very happy with how many people showed up.

We had many great speakers from all across South London! Thank you as well to all the amazing photographers and videographers who documented our event! More content on the way soon!

Sadly the Lewisham Green Party has signalled to us that in practise they will carry on labour plans after the council has signed off on the section 106 agreement.

They are currently planning on using the same policies as the labour party to carry out the redevelopment- such as viability reviews and using GLA Grant funding to subsidise Landsec’s profits. Until they clearly outline how they are going to do things differently beyond vague rhetoric the results are still the same.

We are deeply disappointed in the decision of the Green Party. Construction is yet to start so we still have time but we will unapologetically oppose redevelopments that do not have the minimum of guaranteed 50% affordable housing.

Hope is not lost however!

We will still as always fight against the shopping centre redevelopment, this was always going to be a long fight.

Thanks so much to everyone for staying with us! It’s coming up soon to a year anniversary of our campaigning efforts to save the centre.

Every time we hold a rally our influence grows stronger, the fact we were able to pressure the council into forcing our debate shows our collective strength.

There are many more development schemes on the horizon which are offering pitiful amounts of affordable housing. We need to remain united and keep putting in the work to make sure that any developments that happen in our borough are done for our needs FIRST! Not for private property developers to extract money.

Lewisham’s Strategic Planning Committee rejected an application of a major redevelopment at the former Lewisham College site beside Deptford Bridge.

We were joined by Allen Hall of to voice our concerns of the proposal.

This is not the final chapter of this story, but for now, Deptford has dodged a bullet and the delivery of a lousy development.
