3 years ago I was an employed surveyor, and now I run my own surveying business.

It’s been a journey, and one I love to share with others who might be considering becoming a business owner themselves, or wanting a career in surveying.

Meet Bob, he’s a Sava student who has shadowed our RICS Surveyor Callum a few times now ✍️

For those not familiar with what shadowing is, let us give you a quick debrief: it’s when a Sava student comes out with us on a real life survey, seeing how we survey the property first hand.

We went to a property in Chesterfield and completed a Level 2 survey. He completed a full survey with Callum to use as part of his course template.

Getting access to houses is something Sava students struggle with, which Callum himself used to struggle with too, so outings like this can really help!

Transparency really speeds things up when you’re selling. If a buyer asks when something was last repaired, you’ve got the paperwork to prove it. It gives buyers confidence the property’s been maintained, alongside having a surveyors qualified eye to check the condition accurately.

Some properties are larger, so naturally they take longer to look around, take all the photos and measurements we need, take damp readings and leave time spare to fly our drone so we can see out of reach areas that we don’t get to see from the ground.

This stunning £1.1m property was surveyed in Derbyshire, during the heatwave we had this summer. Swipe to see the impact on the surrounding fields and beautiful views from the property’s land. 🌾

We had a team day last week at WR Surveying HQ and what a day it was!

We all talk to each other daily, but it’s always nice to see each other in person and have our office space for the team, which we have been making our own each time we visit 🪴.

Tom and Callum chatted through some interesting business updates, working through questions like tax and finance. It’s so good to be able to share the knowledge we’ve built over the years and pass that on to Tom for his own business and chat freely about anything. ➡️

The two also spoken about updates to the systems that are used day to day, and how to improve the service for clients and continue to make the experience even better.

We compared notes and resources on the CPD training we take part in too that helps our personal development and learn more about our industry, which we can then share directly with our clients.

Plus we managed to squeeze in some content creation together for a very exciting announcement coming soon, any guesses to what’s coming up? 👀
