Not every lockout needs a new lock.
We had an emergency call-out last night from a customer who had already contacted one of the large national locksmith companies advertising low-cost call-outs.
They attended and told the customer the lock would need to be replaced, with the total cost running into hundreds of pounds.
The customer decided not to go ahead and called us instead.
We arrived within 30 minutes and were able to gain entry quickly and non-destructively, with no damage to the door and no need to replace the existing lock.
The customer’s review afterwards says it best:
“John was a huge help! Locked ourselves out of the flat and he came within 30 minutes and got us back in with no damage to the door…”
This is exactly why I always try to use non-destructive entry methods first wherever possible.
Sometimes a lock really does need replacing — but sometimes it doesn’t.

Door getting harder to lock? Don’t ignore it!
We were recently contacted for an emergency call-out after a customer found themselves locked inside their top-floor flat with their young family.
The customer had already tried to investigate the issue themselves, which is why the handle had been removed when we arrived.
We managed to open the door non-destructively, then diagnosed the fault as a failed gearbox within the multipoint locking mechanism.
The faulty gearbox was removed and replaced, and the door was tested and returned to normal operation.
The important part of this job is what the customer told us afterwards:
The door had already been becoming harder to lock and the key more difficult to turn.
Those are often early warning signs that something in the locking system, alignment or gearbox is beginning to fail.
If the door had been checked when those symptoms first appeared, there’s a good chance the issue could have been dealt with before it became an emergency — potentially saving the customer the stress and cost of an emergency call-out.

Commercial emergency call-out 🔧

We attended a commercial restaurant after an exit door stopped latching correctly.

After stripping down and inspecting the push-pad mechanism, we found a rogue washer preventing the spring from fully engaging the locking bars.

The obstruction was removed, the mechanism cleaned, refitted and adjusted, and the door was restored to correct operation without replacing the full mechanism.

Commercial door not latching properly?

We recently attended an emergency commercial call-out where a push-pad exit mechanism was failing to engage correctly. 🔐 Two late-night emergency lockouts — both customers safely back inside

The first call came from a customer who had accidentally left their keys inside their home. I was able to get to them and have them safely back indoors within around 45 minutes of the call.

While travelling home from that job, I received another emergency call from a customer who had also left their keys inside after heading out for work.

This one involved a block of flats, so I first had to bypass the communal security door before gaining access to the customer’s home.

Once at the flat, access was gained in around 10 minutes, with everything completed non-destructively.

Two customers locked out late at night. Two successful entries. No unnecessary damage.
