It was about five years ago that I started investing in property, having had no interest before. I had worked in the mortgage department of a building society and I had thought that it was all about saving up a deposit and then getting a mortgage. The question often comes up whether it is wise to invest in property up north or down south.

The advantage of investing in the north is that properties are much cheaper and the cash flow from rental income is better too. The advantage of investing in the south is that capital appreciation is much better.
