Our favorite long distance walk - The Hadrians Wall Walk 📍🚶‍♂️

Hadrians Wall is one of Britain’s great long‑distance adventures — 84 miles of Roman forts, rolling countryside, ancient villages, and big skies

...and all this is "on our doorstep"!

Tourists visiting Vindolanda Roman Fort in Northumberland, England, often ask, "Where is Hadrian's Wall?" It is often assumed that it is physically attached to the Wall, and many publications describe it as "on Hadrian's Wall," which implies exactly that. But Vindolanda was built before Hadrian's Wall and is about one mile south of it as the crow flies.

If you arrive at Vindolanda from the west, it can be easy to think the fort sits in a vulnerable position low down with very little natural protection, but the view from Barcombe Hill here tells another story. Vindolanda is naturally protected on three sides.
