Stretching across northern England, through some of the country's most spectacular scenery, The Stanegate is the Roman road linking Corbridge, Vindolanda and Carlisle and is believed to pre-date Hadrian’s Wall, having been built by the Emporor Agricola in around AD 78, passing close by Stable Cottage and The Hideaway Huts at Huntercrook, and indeed our own home in the hamlet of Thorngrafton. Here

you will find a wealth of history: an abundance of wildlife: rugged moorlands and beautiful valleys; - spaces to explore and excite every sense - peace to relax and enjoy Nature at her most glorious and awe-inspiring. If you are looking for something a little different ....last night we were treated to a Gruesome Tour by Helen Adventours. Unforgettable Immersive Walking Tours who told us some of the less savoury and fascinating social history of Hexham (Visit Hexham) . We spent just an hour exploring the past in our lovely market town and learnt so much as Helen brought history to life.
