Hello everybody peeps

As the end of the longest winter in British history seems to be ending, it's time to look at your garden and plan for a long hot summer drinking Pimm's with friends under a pergola on some new decking... right?

Seeing as most Victorian homes in Brighton and Hove have a chimney breast and adjoining alcoves, it seemed a good idea to learn how to build shelves and cupboards to compliment them.
So we did.

These are the jobs I love.

A client wanted to maximise space in her new apartment.
Raising the bed up makes a large room even bigger.

Made from 100yr old salvaged joist wood gathered up around Brighton from skips and building sites, it sands up well and makes a splendid and rather tactile structure.

I love to keep the original features, hand carved by our forefather carpenters making a quite unique structure. If there’s a tenon or a mortice, bird’s mouth or dovetail, it’s staying.

If you think your studio or home could benefit from not just more space but a really rather lovely piece of centrepiece furniture then you know where I am.

Oh, by the way… this takes a lot of time to prepare and fabricate so it won't be the cheapest piece of furniture you’ll ever have made for you, but I think you’ll agree, one of the best.

Haven't done much composite decking work but I particularly enjoyed this project...

Having laid the treated timber frame off the ground on chunks of composite decking, I then treated the cut ends with varnish before covering the frame with membrane. No one likes a wooden frame peeking out between anthracite boards do they!

The client wanted a raised deck built too enabling an evening G&T overlooking the sea. Lovely.

So this happened...

A lovely client wanted to transform a slightly overgrown area of her pretty garden to a useable space.

Having secured the uprights - which also strengthened a dying fence - I slotted in thte horizontal beams and then things began to transform.

At the same time I levelled out a base and began to screw the decking together further enforcing the structure.

The perimiter fence needed some love so rather than buying very expensive battens, I dug out some timber from my store and run them through the table saw saving the client money and the planet seemed rather grateful too.

A lovely little job and a very happy customer = )
