MEET ONE OF OUR JETVAC TEAMS! 📣

Not the prettiest side of surveying… but definitely one of the most important! 😂

A couple of shots from one of our teams out on site with the Layer Surveys JetVac.

There’s a lot that goes on underground that you simply can’t see from the surface, and when drainage systems aren’t flowing as they should, sometimes you’ve just got to get in there and sort it. Our JetVac team can help with everything from blocked and silted drainage to cleansing ahead of CCTV surveys, helping us get a proper look at what’s actually going on below ground.

It’s another service we’ve invested in because it means we can offer our clients more under one roof — survey it, clean it, inspect it and help identify the problem.

And yes… our tanker is pretty hard to miss on site! 🎨😂

🏗️ WHEN A MANHOLE COVER WON’T BUDGE… WE BRING IN THE BIG GUNS! 💪

Another day, another interesting challenge for the Layer Surveys team — this time at the NEC Birmingham.

Our engineers were on site carrying out drainage survey works, where access meant lifting some seriously stubborn and heavy manhole covers.

For jobs like these, manual lifting simply isn’t the answer. That’s where our hydraulic manhole cover lifter comes into its own. 👏

It allows our engineers to safely lift and move heavy covers while reducing manual handling, protecting our team and giving us the access we need to get the survey completed efficiently.

From busy exhibition centres and commercial sites to highways and complex drainage networks, having the right equipment, experienced engineers and a problem-solving approach makes all the difference.

🎓 A huge thank you & congratulations to James Barlow! 👏

As James comes to the end of his year in industry with Layer Surveys, we wanted to take a moment to recognise what a fantastic year it has been.

James joined us as part of his Physical Geography degree at Aberystwyth University, and over the past year he has developed an incredible amount of knowledge and practical experience. From working on exciting surveying projects to gaining valuable insight into life within the industry, he has been a fantastic addition to the Layer Surveys team.

It’s safe to say we’re very sad to see him leave us as he heads back to Aberystwyth to complete his final year of university. 🎓

James has been a pleasure to have around, and we’re incredibly proud of how much he has learned and progressed during his time with us.

Thank you, James, for all your hard work and enthusiasm. We wish you every success for your final year and whatever comes next — although we certainly hope this isn’t the last we see of you! 🙌

🌙 Surveying doesn’t stop when the sun goes down.

While most people are heading home, our team is sometimes just getting started.

This recent night-time survey for Layer Surveys Ltd highlights the flexibility, technical expertise and careful planning required to deliver accurate results after dark.

Before work began, our team completed the necessary site checks, established safe access and ensured the working area was properly illuminated. High-visibility clothing, appropriate PPE and clear communication helped maintain a safe and controlled environment throughout the survey.

Using specialist equipment and proven surveying techniques, our experienced surveyors captured precise data while carefully accounting for the challenges of reduced visibility and night-time conditions. Every measurement was checked and recorded with accuracy to provide reliable information for the project team.

Sometimes the job takes us off the beaten track! 🌳

Our team recently found themselves working in a challenging, heavily wooded environment, with the trusty Leica robotic total station doing the hard work from the foreground.

Dense vegetation, tricky access and difficult terrain can all add another layer of complexity to a survey — but that’s where experience, the right equipment and a good eye for detail really make the difference.

At Layer Surveys, we’re equipped to take on surveys in all kinds of environments, delivering accurate data even when the site itself isn’t quite so straightforward. 📐

When the job takes us underground, there’s no such thing as a conventional working environment! 👷‍♂️

Our team recently found themselves down in a live drainage culvert, carrying out detailed surveying work in some pretty challenging conditions.

Working in confined spaces, with water underfoot and limited headroom, is all part of the job when it comes to getting the data our clients need. 📐📍

At Layer Surveys, we don’t just survey the easy stuff — we go where the survey takes us!

Recognition like this makes all the hard work worthwhile.

We were incredibly honoured to receive this letter from Paul Foster MP, recognising the success of our recent charity golf day in support of the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Our aim was simple – bring together clients, friends, suppliers and colleagues for a fantastic day of golf while raising money for an incredible local charity. To receive acknowledgement from our local Member of Parliament is something we’re extremely proud of.

This recognition isn’t just for us – it belongs to every single person who attended, sponsored a hole, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and supported the event in any way. Your generosity has helped make a real difference to patients and their families across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
