🔴 LFC legend Steven Gerrard has unveiled multi-million-pound plans for new sports and education facilities across Liverpool and Knowsley.

The proposals include six new 3G football pitches and up to 16 padel courts across Childwall Sports and Science Academy and King George V Playing Fields in Huyton.

Plans for Childwall include what is believed to be the UK’s first school-based padel academy, while the Huyton scheme would see King George V Playing Fields transformed with new football pitches and a padel centre.

Gerrard is making a significant personal investment in the projects, with the Huyton site located just yards from where he was born.

Subject to planning and the necessary approvals, further details on investment, timescales and delivery are expected as the proposals progress.

Gerrard said: “Liverpool gave me so much growing up, and I’ve always wanted to give something back to the city where I was born and the place I’m proud to call home.

“I’m investing in these projects because I believe in the difference they can make for young people."

The future of Woolton Picture House has been secured after a fundraising campaign surpassed its £450,000 target, raising £532,884 in public donations since October 🎬✨

Following months of fundraising led by Woolton Cinema Community Interest Company (CIC), a mystery benefactor stepped in at the eleventh hour to purchase the historic cinema outright.

The building has been gifted back to the CIC on a 100-year peppercorn rent lease, securing its long-term future as a community asset 🏛️

All public funds raised will now be used in full to support the refurbishment of Liverpool’s only remaining single-screen cinema, with plans already underway to revitalise the venue into a multi-purpose space for film screenings, live events and wider community use.
