Did you know Lea Bridge Library is a Carnegie Library?

It was funded by Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-born philanthropist whose name is also on Carnegie Hall in New York.

Back in the early 1900s, he used his fortune to help build libraries on the simple idea that everyone should be able to borrow books and learn for free.

The building on Lea Bridge Road was built in 1905, and it's now Grade I listed, and there's a blue plaque outside if you fancy a little "look up" moment next time you're passing.

Have you used this library recently, and what's your favourite thing about it?

🏡 More seniors are choosing to age in place—and it’s reshaping the housing market.

The latest data shows that 58% of homes occupied by over-65s are under-occupied, up from 53% a decade ago. As more homeowners stay put, fewer larger homes are coming onto the market, creating a knock-on effect for growing families and first-time buyers.

💬 Do you think more incentives should be introduced to encourage downsizing, or should people stay in the homes they’ve built their lives in?

📍Leyton Locals, this one's a must-visit on Lea Bridge Road: .

It's one of those brilliant "pop in for one thing, leave with five" spots. An Italian-Japanese deli with French artisan goodies too. 🇮🇹 🇯🇵 Come for coffee and pastries, stay for sushi rolls and poke salads, and stock up on deli treats, wine, and Japanese cupboard essentials (yes, including the good stuff).

✨What to look out for:
🍣 Sushi rolls, colourful poke salads + veggie/vegan maki
🥪 Italian sarnies, cannoli and aperitivo vibes
🍷 Wine tastings, Japanese supper clubs + monthly masterclasses (they post dates on Instagram)

Perfect for a quick lunch, a relaxed bite in, or grabbing something delicious to take home.

📊 The outlook has changed—but not in the way many expected.

Forecasts for 2026 now point to:
📉 Slightly slower GDP growth
📈 Higher inflation
💷 Stronger wage growth
🏦 A higher bank rate
👷 Stronger employment
🏡 More modest house price growth

It’s a reminder that the property market doesn’t move on interest rates alone. Keeping an eye on the wider economy is key to understanding what’s next.

What do you think will have the biggest impact on the housing market in 2026? 👇

You've probably walked past on Lea Bridge Road loads of times... but it's actually a fourth-generation, family-run hardware shop that's been here for over 80 years.

Inside is a proper treasure trove of screws, hinges, locks, handles, tools... basically the place you want in your back pocket the next time a "quick DIY job" turns into a full afternoon.

The team are genuinely knowledgeable (proper old-school advice), and they're moving with the times too; they're building out their online shop and you can even order through WhatsApp via their website.

📍 Leyton Locals, and this one's a Lea Bridge Road gem: .

If you've never watched naan being made fresh in a clay tandoor, this is your sign.🔥 They're turning them out right in front of you; fluffy, blistered, golden-brown, and ready in around 5 minutes.

And it's not just "plain or garlic" either. The menu is huge, with favourites like:

🧄🧀 garlic, cheese + sesame
🌿 za’atar
🥩 keema
🥥 peshwari

Plus, if you're after a seriously good-value lunch, their wraps are massive (falafel, lami shawarma... the lot) and you can grab chips and a drink without it turning into a £15 situation. 🙌

🕙 Open 7 days a week, 10am - 8pm. You can pre-order by phone or just turn up and wait, it's quick!
