ARKEN’s identity system runs on 80s signage, controlled chaos and binary motion.
Created by STAGECREW for Amsterdam digital studio ARKEN, the identity balances technical precision with analogue nostalgia. Crosshatches, grids, lines and print-inspired details frame a custom logotype and central mark influenced by 1980s Eastern European signage, film and literature.
In motion, the system becomes almost machine-like: on/off repetition, patterned sequences and small rotations give each element its own behaviour. Nothing relies on photography — every part of the visual world was designed from scratch.
The real character comes from how those elements collide. Logos, typography and technical graphics overlap in layers across everything from merchandise to OOH, creating a kind of deliberately managed chaos.
Even the backgrounds began as a rejected version of the mark, stretched, distorted and pulled into entirely new forms.
A system built to feel precise, strange and constantly in motion.
