Simchat Torah is a Jewish festival marking the completion of the annual cycle of reading the Torah and the beginning of a new cycle.

It’s a joyful occasion, traditionally celebrated with singing, dancing and gatherings with family and community. 🎶💃

At LHA, we’re proud to have residents from different backgrounds, cultures and faiths, and we love learning about the traditions that are important to our community.

🖤 Celebrating Black History Month

October is Black History Month, a time to celebrate Black history, culture, achievements and the people who have helped shape the world around us.

And in a city as diverse as London, there’s so much to discover. From music and food to art, literature, fashion and the stories of the communities that have helped shape the capital.

This month, we’re celebrating the people, cultures and contributions that make London the diverse and vibrant city we all get to call home.

Take some time to learn something new, discover a new artist, visit a local exhibition, try something different or simply listen to the stories of others.

Here’s to celebrating Black history, culture and achievements, this month and always. 🖤

We’ve rounded up a few libraries close to LHA hostels where you can find a quiet spot, get your head down and make some progress.

Belsize House → Swiss Cottage Library
A handy option for a quiet study session, with plenty of space to settle in with your notes.

Belsize Park Gardens → Kensington Central Library
A great option if you’re heading into central London for the day and want somewhere peaceful to work.

Bowden Court → Kensington Central Library
Perfect for getting away from the distractions of your room and focusing on that to-do list.

LHA properties in central London → The British Library
A brilliant study destination with free Wi-Fi and public study spaces, with Reading Rooms available to those with a Reader Pass.

And when you’re back at the hostel, remember to keep things quiet during quiet hours so everyone can study, relax or get a good night’s sleep.

With a few simple ingredients and a hostel kitchen, you can make 5 easy, filling meals for under £10, perfect for busy London days when your budget needs a little help.

🍜 Chilli Crisp(ish) Noodles – noodles, spring onion, soy sauce, chilli and a fried egg
🫓 Pizza Toasties – bread, tomato purée, cheese and herbs, toasted until crispy
🥔 Loaded Potato Nachos – sliced potatoes topped with beans, cheese and salsa
🍛 Curry-in-a-Hurry – chickpeas, tomatoes, curry powder and rice
