One of the most common assumptions among buyers looking at the South West is that Devon feels “too far away”.
Yet spend a little time exploring the county and that perception quickly starts to change.
As recently pointed out, Devon offers a remarkable combination of lifestyle, connectivity and value. For families balancing careers, schooling and a desire for more space, there are very few places that tick as many boxes.
What’s particularly interesting is how often buyers start their search in the Home Counties or further east in the South West, only to find themselves drawn towards Mid Devon. The area around Tiverton has quietly become one of the region’s most compelling locations: London Paddington is less than two hours away from Tiverton Parkway, Exeter and Taunton are close by, and both Exmoor and the North Devon coast are within easy reach.
The numbers are compelling too. A substantial country house, farm or equestrian property here can often represent significantly better value than an equivalent property further east, without compromising on schools, accessibility or lifestyle.
Perhaps that’s why Tiverton is no longer Devon’s best-kept secret. For many families rethinking where and how they want to live, it is increasingly becoming the sweet spot of the South West.
