How I feel: One of the things I’ve realised about entrepreneurship is that everybody gets a piece of you.
I have a partner I love.
A little boy I adore.
Parents who have always supported me.
Over 50 people across our businesses who rely on leadership, direction and good decisions.
Clients who trust us with some of the biggest decisions they’ll ever make.
And then there’s the business itself.
The opportunities.
The problems.
The decisions.
The constant need to keep moving forward.
What’s fascinating is that technology has created more opportunity than ever before.
You can build a global business from a laptop.
Reach millions of people from a phone.
Access tools and capabilities previous generations could only dream of.
But the same technology that creates opportunity also creates responsibility.
Today, founders aren’t just CEOs.
We’re often the marketer, strategist, recruiter, content creator, culture carrier and public face of the business all at once.
The role has expanded dramatically.
And if you’re not careful, you end up putting yourself last.
I know I do sometimes.
The irony is that technology promises more freedom, but without discipline it can create more noise, more expectations and more demands on your attention.
That’s why so many entrepreneurs feel stretched.
Not because they’re doing something wrong.
Because the job itself has changed.
The opportunity has never been bigger.
But neither has the responsibility.
And perhaps the hardest part isn’t building the business.
It’s making sure you don’t lose yourself while you’re building it.
