Here’s where the structure begins.

A dormer loft conversion starts long before the new space takes shape. First, we plan, measure the loft, check the existing structure, and make sure the roof can support the extension.

From there, the dormer is designed to create as much head height and usable floor space as possible, while still fitting the style of the house and meeting planning requirements.

At this stage, we’re preparing the structure by installing the steels, floor joists, and roof supports before building the dormer frame, adding the windows, and completing the roof covering.

Once that’s in place, the internal work follows, including insulation, electrics, plumbing, plastering, and finishes. Every part needs to be properly coordinated so the loft is safe, functional, and ready to use.

Thinking about space at home?

When homeowners are looking at a loft conversion, extension or full refurbishment, the build itself is only one part of the decision.

A lot of the process comes down to trust, clear communication and knowing who is taking responsibility for the work. From the first site visit and quote through to the build, we make sure everyone understands what is happening and what stage the project is at.

They’re away, but progress continues.

Our clients are currently on holiday while we keep this loft conversion moving forward. The dormer shell is now up, the roofing works are underway, and the new staircase has been installed.

When clients trust us to continue work while they’re not at home, that comes with responsibility. The site needs to stay secure, the work needs to stay organised, and communication has to remain clear throughout.

That’s what proper project management looks like: keeping everything progressing while making sure the client feels confident, even when they’re not physically here.

More room for family life.

The staircase changes the whole project.

We’ve just installed the new staircase on this loft conversion, which is the point where the existing house finally connects properly to the new loft space.

Before it could go in, the opening had to be carefully planned around the existing floor, the new loft layers and the space below. The staircase then needed to be fitted accurately, with the right positioning, head height and access.

Once the stairs are in, you can walk up into the new space for the first time, and that makes the project feel a lot more real.

The roof is taking shape.

We’re back in south London on our biggest loft conversion to date, and this is a key stage in bringing the structure together.

With the dormer shell now up, the roofing works can begin. The important part here is making sure the new roof ties properly into the existing house, with close attention on the junctions so everything is detailed correctly and kept watertight.

Once the roofing is complete, the outside will start to look much more like a finished extension, even though there is still plenty to do inside.

The dormer is taking shape.

We’re back on site for our loft conversion mini series, and the dormer shell is now up. This is a big stage in the project, as it’s the point where the loft starts to feel like a proper extension of the home.

The steel and floor structure are already in place, and the dormer framework is now forming the new walls and roof shape. From here, we can begin closing everything in before moving towards the roofing and internal stages.

It’s still very much a building site, but you can already see how much extra space this loft conversion is going to create.
