Before we take on any property in the UK, we check these 5 things:

1. The demand. Are our clients looking for more properties in this area?

2. Guest type. Does this attract holiday goers or corporate clients?

3. The layout. Does this floorplan work for our needs?

4. Local regulations. This is an important step if we're taking on a property in a new location.

5. An exit plan if it stops performing well. It's better to plan for this and never need to use it than to not have a plan.

We don't chase quick wins. We build sustainable steps and we teach our mentees to do the same.

One thing we’ve learned on this journey is that growth doesn’t happen by accident, it happens when you’re willing to learn, be coached, and be held accountable. At Penta, we’ve always invested in mentoring, education, and putting ourselves in rooms where we’re challenged.

Having someone to guide you, question your decisions, and push you when it would be easier to stay comfortable has played a huge part in our growth - both personally and in business.

It’s easy to think you need more time, more money, or more confidence… but often what you really need is perspective and support.

We’re big believers that if you want to build something sustainable, you have to build yourself first. Skills can be learned. Systems can be built. But mindset, discipline, and self-belief come from doing the inner work too.

We were incredibly grateful to be invited back as keynote speakers at the University of Glasgow - this time with both co-founders, Phoebe and Michael (daughter and father), taking the stage together.

They shared the honest reality of building a business in today’s world. Breaking down what people think they need to get started versus what actually matters. From early challenges and setbacks to building resilience, systems, and a family-run business that works. The focus was on real lessons rather than just the highlight reels.

The journey hasn’t been smooth or easy. Like most businesses, it’s been filled with learning curves, tough decisions, and moments that really tested everything. Those experiences are exactly what shaped the business into what it is today.

To be trusted by the University of Glasgow Business School to educate and inspire future entrepreneurs - and to be flown out to do so - was something we didn’t take lightly.

A proud moment for our family-run business, and a reminder of why honest education and sharing the reality behind entrepreneurship matters so much.

The 5 Minute Rule is simple: when a task feels overwhelming, commit to just 5 minutes.

Send the email. Make the call. Open the spreadsheet. Most of the time, starting is the hardest part. Once you start, momentum follows.

We use this rule in our business and it's something we encourage all of our members to adopt.

Progress doesn't come from motivation - it comes from action!

Sometimes we catch ourselves focusing on what still needs to be done…
and forget to pause and realise how far we’ve actually come.

The things we once felt nervous about - running a property business, managing a team remotely, travelling while working - are now just part of our normal. And that’s easy to overlook when you’re always pushing for the next goal.

We’re our own harshest critics. We downplay the wins. We move the goalposts. We forget that the life we’re living today is the one we used to quietly dream about.

So this is your reminder (and ours):
Take a moment. Zoom out. Give yourself some credit.

If you’re building something, showing up consistently, learning as you go. You’re doing better than you think.

Don't forget to do these 3 things before traveling while running a remote business:

1. Connection: Get an E-sim. This has been a life saver for us. It means that even when we're out of our accommodation and nowhere near a WiFi spot, we can stay connected to our business at all times.

2. Team: Make sure your cleaners and maintenance team in the ground are aware of their duties and to coordinate queries with you.

3. Automation: Ensure enquires can be responded to immediately without you needing to be online 24/7. We recommend platforms like Uplisting.

Remember that your business should work around your life and not the other way around!
