We realise that many students arrive in London only to find poor quality accommodation and unhelpful landlords. We’re here to prove that’s not always the case. 🌒 **The London Renter’s Guide**
**No eclipse glasses? Don’t miss out!**

This evening, London gets a pretty impressive view of the solar eclipse, with around 92% of the Sun expected to be covered at its peak.

⏰ **London timings**
Starts: approx. 6.17pm
Maximum eclipse: approx. 7.13pm
Ends: approx. 8.06pm

But what if you’ve left it too late to get eclipse glasses? 👀

🥄 **Raid the kitchen**
Stand with your back to the Sun and hold up a colander. The holes act as tiny pinhole projectors, casting multiple images of the eclipse onto the ground.

📄 **Make a pinhole viewer**
Make a small hole in a piece of card and project the Sun’s image onto another piece of card or a light surface.

🌳 **Find a leafy tree**
Gaps between the leaves can act as natural pinhole projectors. Look at the ground underneath, and you may see lots of tiny crescent Suns.

📱 **Watch online**
If the London weather has other ideas, look out for an official eclipse livestream.

⚠️ **Most importantly**
Never look directly at the Sun without proper solar viewing glasses. Ordinary sunglasses, cameras and binoculars are NOT safe alternatives.

No glasses? No problem.
Apparently, you just need a colander. 😂🌒

Heading away for a few days?
Before you lock the door, take five minutes to:

• empty your kitchen bin
• throw away any fruit or vegetables left in cupboards or fruit bowls 🍌
• don't leave a finished dishwasher full of clean dishes while you're away, empty it first
• wash up any remaining dishes
• clear out food that won't last

It's a simple way to help avoid unpleasant smells, fruit flies and coming home to a kitchen that needs sorting before you've even unpacked!

Heading away for the weekend or off on your summer holiday?

The recent warm weather means houseplants can dry out much faster than usual.

If you're going to be away for a few days, consider:
💧 Using a self-watering globe or watering spike
🛁 Place pots with drainage holes in a shallow bath or tray with a few inches of water, so they can absorb what they need
👋 Asking a friend or neighbour to pop in
🌤️ Moving plants out of direct sunlight before you leave

A little planning now means you'll come home to healthy plants instead of crispy leaves!

🏡 Before you book a viewing...

The apartment might look perfect online, but it's worth looking beyond the photos.
Before you view:

📍 Check the area on Google Maps. Is it above a busy restaurant, next to a late-night venue or on a noisy main road?
🛜 Find out what's included. Is it furnished? Is there fast broadband? Are white goods provided?
💷 Remember to budget for more than just the rent. Council Tax, utilities and internet can make a big difference to your monthly costs.
🚶 If you can, visit the area at different times of the day. A quiet street at 11am can feel very different on a Friday evening.

The right apartment is about more than what's inside the front door.

📦 Before you move out...
A little preparation before you hand back the keys can help make the end of your tenancy much smoother.

Before you leave:

🧹 Clean the property thoroughly.
📸 Take photos of every room once you've finished.
📋 Check the inventory and return furniture and other items to their original places.
🔑 Return every set of keys you've been given.

Leaving the property in good order can help avoid delays at check-out and make the deposit return process much simpler.
