🌿 Sometimes you don’t realise how much progress you’ve made until you look back!

We maintain this garden on an ad hoc basis, and because the improvements happen gradually, it can sometimes feel like we haven’t made a huge difference.

Today we looked back at a photo from our first visit and compared it with how the garden is looking now… and what a difference! 👏🌱

The lawn is looking healthier, the borders are tidier, everything is becoming more defined and the whole garden feels much more cared for.

It’s a great reminder that garden maintenance doesn’t always need one massive transformation.

Sometimes it’s the regular visits, small improvements and consistent work that make the biggest difference over time.

Really encouraging to see the progress and we’ll keep building on it with every visit.

🔧 THE “DAY OFF” WHEN YOU RUN A BUSINESS…

Had a rare day off today… although, as anyone who runs their own business knows, a day off doesn’t always mean a day off!

A couple of quotes completed, paperwork caught up on, and finally managed to give our lock-up garage a much-needed tidy and reorganise 🧹🛠️

It’s the side of running a small business that customers don’t always see.

Behind every job there’s quoting, messages, planning, buying materials, maintaining tools, keeping the van on the road, sorting equipment and plenty of admin.

Not particularly glamorous, but it all keeps things running smoothly and means we can turn up organised and ready for the next job 💪

The lock-up certainly isn't going to win any awards for tidiness just yet… but believe me, this is an improvement! 😂

🍂 What a difference a few weeks can make! 🌱

After a long, hot and incredibly dry summer, there were times when you looked at the scorched grass and wondered whether it would ever properly recover.

Fast-forward to September and nature has certainly bounced back! 🌧️🌿

These commercial embankments were cut by us this morning, and they’re looking beautifully green again.

The ground is moist, the grass is thriving and, on these slopes, things are definitely getting a little more perilous for the person behind the mower! 😅

It’s fascinating how quickly the seasons change - from dusty, brown summer lawns to the lush greens and autumn colours beginning to appear.

THE REAL COST OF RUNNING A SMALL BUSINESS

It’s not all garden tidy-ups, repairs and finished-job photos! 😅

This week the work van has been off the road for its full service, MOT and the repairs needed to get it through.

Keeping a reliable van properly maintained is just one of the many costs that sit behind running a small local business - servicing, MOTs, repairs, tyres, fuel, insurance, tools, waste disposal… the list goes on!

But it’s all part of making sure we can turn up safely, reliably and ready for the next job.

The good news - fresh service completed, MOT sorted and we’re back on the road from Monday!

⭐ LOVELY CUSTOMER FEEDBACK ⭐

Yesterday we received an emergency call from a customer who needed some help with a faulty wardrobe that had been incorrectly fitted.

We managed to get out to them today, carefully dismantled the wardrobe so it could be returned to the manufacturer, and got everything sorted for them.

Sometimes it’s not about a big project, it’s simply about being there when somebody needs a Helping Hand.

Thank you Kath for taking the time to leave such a lovely recommendation.

Another job ticked off for a regular customer

We carry out lots of different jobs for this customer, and this time they asked us to tidy up around their recently replaced bathroom sink.

There was some cosmetic damage and an untidy finish along the back where the sink meets the tiles, which needed making good.

We patched up the damaged areas, fitted a neat finishing trim and sealed everything properly — leaving it watertight, much cleaner and considerably smarter.

Sometimes it’s the smaller finishing jobs that make all the difference!

Another happy customer and another job completed ✅

😂 WHEN YOU’RE AIMING FOR AN EARLY FINISH ON A FRIDAY…

First job today - a first-floor guttering repair.

Sun was right in my eyes while I was working, so I took my glasses off and carefully placed them on the roof above me.

Job finished ✅
Tools packed away ✅
Ladders loaded back onto the van ✅
Ready to get on with the day and hopefully sneak an early Friday finish ✅

Started to drive off…

👓 GLASSES!!!
Still sitting happily on the roof 😂
Back we go.
Ladders back off the van.
Everything set up AGAIN.
Back up to retrieve the glasses 🪜👓

So much for being efficient and getting an early finish! 😂

At least the guttering is repaired… and the glasses survived.

What a difference in just TWO visits!

Today was our second visit for a new customer, and we're really pleased with how much the garden has improved already.

When we first started, the garden had become heavily overgrown and needed some attention to get it back under control.

After just two visits, it's looking tidier, brighter and far more manageable.

Today's work included:

✂️ Cutting and tidying the overgrown areas
🌱 Bringing the lawn back under control
🌿 Clearing and tidying the borders
💦 A weed-treatment programme on the patio
🧹 Clearing and removing all the garden waste

Regular maintenance can make such a difference, especially when a garden has been allowed to get away for a while.

Back at it after the holidays!

The holidays already seem like a distant memory but it’s been great getting stuck back into work and ticking off plenty of jobs since getting home.

A few of the jobs completed over the last week or so:

- Lawn cuts and regular garden maintenance
- Garden tidy-ups
- Guttering repairs
- Re-fixing a curtain pole into a concrete lintel
- Stripping down and repairing our multi-tool
- Re-plastering and making good a wall after a partition was removed

Plus plenty of other smaller repairs and maintenance jobs along the way.

It’s certainly been a busy return, but very glad to be back at it and working our way through the diary.

A big thank you, as always, to all our regular and new customers for keeping us busy and supporting our local business.
