After a wonderful Summer we close for the season on Sunday and although we're fully booked on Saturday night, Foxglove is available tomorrow night. So if you need to take a break, to rest and recharge then get booking.

Here's a review from the beautiful guests that stayed last night -

"We’ve just got back from our stay. We absolutely loved staying at Angharads place. Can’t wait to come back.
We loved getting to know the donkeys and ponies and their lovely dogs. This was something really special about the place.
The yurt is beautiful and a very comfortable bed so we had the best nights sleep.
Angharad made us dinner and it was absolutely delicious I would highly recommend booking this.
Angharad is so friendly and helpful we felt so welcome and at home.
We will definitely be back."

We've had the most amazing guests joining us at Duckling Barn from senior meteorologists, Bollywood greenscapers (film set landscapers), renewable energy designers, brewers, film costume designers, national park managers, intensive care nurses, water catchment specialists, to entrepreneurs and the most amazing kids.

All have come for a little rest. reset and regroup and I think this review says it all

"Absolutely loved our stay here a fantastic location. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to get away to the countryside for a few days. Highlight of the trip was morning coffees with the donkeys. Hosts are extremely friendly and helpful 10/10 would love to stay again."

This is our last week so shout/book if you'd love to join us. We'll be back in 2027

A lovely weekend of beautiful guests and with only two weeks left of the holidays we have some availability so come and join us at Duckling Barn , the tents are marvelous in the heat and even better if we do get rain as they are like the most magical cocoon. If you need a break, to relax, regroup and reconnect then come and join us - here's some reviews from lovely guests this weekend:

"We absolutely loved our stay. Angharad and Mark were fantastic hosts. We were greeted on arrival and given a quick tour of the surroundings. Mark pointed us towards some local pubs and restaurants to get something to eat. We were travelling with our 1 year old, Angharad had made special arrangements whilst setting up our Yurt making it as baby proof as possible, lots of blankets and cushions which was brilliant . The Yurt itself is beautiful and it’s a gorgeous setting. Our little one loved it, especially saying hello to the donkeys, ponies and doggies. Couldn’t recommend our hosts enough, we will be back, thank you :)"

"Very friendly, kind and accommodating hosts with great communication. Lots of thoughtful details. Comfy bed and we had a great stay. Couldn’t have asked for more for our one night’s stay and my son has already asked to come back next year."

Love the legends of The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley

Top 6 myths & legends of the Forest of Dean. 👇

Some of these stories are said to be older than the trees.

💍 A Forest curse may have inspired Lord of the Rings. A Roman named Silvianus lost a ring at Lydney Park. He begged the god Nodens to curse the thief until it came back. The ring later surfaced in a Hampshire field. It now sits at The Vyne in Hampshire. The National Trust reckons the Tolkien link is wishful thinking. We're choosing to believe.

🩸 One stone is said to bleed at midnight... The Staunton Longstone stands around seven feet tall on the verge of the A4136, thought to be Bronze Age. Prick it with a pin at midnight, so the story goes, and it bleeds. There's a red streak down the back of it. Probably iron in the rock. Maybe…

🐗 The Forest had its own monster. Long before wild boar returned, people spoke of the Beast of Dean, otherwise known as the Moose-Pig. Part boar, part myth. Big enough to flatten hedges and topple trees near Parkend…

🌊 Legend says the Severn is named after a drowned girl. In legend, a child called Habren was drowned alongside her mother in the river by a wronged queen known as Gwendolen. Hafren in Welsh. Severn in English. Sabrina in Latin. The goddess of the river.

🪦 One gravestone cannot be read. In Parkend churchyard lies Edmund Vimpany, died 1836. His stone is carved in runes no one has ever cracked. Secret code, or a dead man's joke?

🐱 Dick Whittington was a real local. The pantomime hero was from around here! Four times Lord Mayor of London. His family held the manor of Pauntley, right here in the Forest of Dean district.

Still plenty more where these came from. Had you heard them all before?
