This weekend you have a rare opportunity to visit Llwyn Celyn, near Abergavenny, open to the public only twice a year.

Set at the southern end of the beautiful Llanthony Valley, Llwyn Celyn was built in 1420 on lands belonging to Llanthony Priory. It is a remarkable survival from the period following Owain Glyndŵr’s Rising, and has barely changed since around 1690, with many rare medieval features still intact.

Open on 6th and 7th June from 10am to 4pm, entry is FREE but booking is required via Landmark Engagement

Visitors can explore the farmhouse, Threshing Barn and Beast House, learn about its history and restoration.

A highlight for younger visitors on Saturday (10am–2pm) is the hands-on ‘LEGO Landmarks’ workshop, where children can build colourful Welsh landmarks using thousands of LEGO bricks, guided by a ‘master builder’.

Thank you to Landmark Engagement for the photos.

Twelve engineering science students on a Channel Island study retreat🎒

Fort Clonque, Alderney was the inspiring research base for Engineering Science Masters and PhD students at Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford 🧬

The recent four-day study trip was spent working on scientific papers on engineering biological systems for practical uses within medicine and the environment, inspired by existing solutions in nature 🌿

The topics examine how we can learn from nature and help shape more sustainable solutions for challenges like pollution, antibiotic resistance.

Alderney's remote location, unique geology and lush biodiversity provided a focussed environment for study - itself being cut off from the island twice a day! 🌊

'Staying in a remote and breath-taking location as a group has allowed us to have truly in-depth scientific discussions, which are impossible as part of day-to-day life.'

The study stay was part of Landmark Futures, a scheme offering stays at Landmark Trust properties for research and study purposes.
