3 jobs done today.
First job was taking out brick and cement and filling in a vent pipe, then rebuilding the grumplings.
2nd job was dubbing out the bottom of the house over the road from the grumplings (again) ready for a scratch.
3rd job was topping the bottom of the gable that had failed ready for a harl.
I’ll pop back to all 3 tomorrow to push them back 👍
Lots of travelling for not very much lime work. That’s how it sometimes is in this game!!


One mortar is from Heritage Cob & Lime and 2 are from Mike Wye Ltd. Can you tell the difference?

Popped in today to help Matt Tall take out the old window (instead of making a timber frame as a datum we took all the glass and sash out the old window), jigged the stone around to lower the sills inside and out, set the window back in to the middle of the building where it should be, cut and bed on the new slate sill and started building up the reveals. Matt will change the lintel this week to a new solid air dried oak lintel and finish the reveals. That’s 2 of 9 ready for the new windows 🙈

Use old materials on old buildings and you won’t go far wrong 👌
Introducing metal to this chimney would risk opening the joints when the metal expands in the heat and letting water ingress so let’s do it how it was built 👌

I was speaking to someone the other day about this system. Why aren’t these installed now on entry new build when they dig the footings. Same as ground source heating. Surely that could be installed quite simply when starting new plots. 🤷
