After a recommendation last night by a local we have taken a drive to a chain driven ferry across the river Fel to come to St Mawes to see the castle and harbour. So pizza for lunch it is.
And the sun is trying to show itself and weve had the roof down on the car.

Ive been working on a job this week that I started months ago. They have extended the scaffolding further around the rear of the building to give me access to the next area of ivy that needs removing from the wall. And to give me access to the rear gable wall to fit new lead, and render.
And to get access to the top of the chimney stack, where we were supposed to be removing the three pots and grass and moss and re bedding them ready for winter.
But the scaffolding wasn’t built correctly so we didn’t have it at the correct height to reach, and it didn’t go around the back as it should so that we can walk around it safely.
We asked if it could be changed to be safe but the client said that the scaffolding co didn’t want to, as they hadn’t priced for it!
They also hadn’t boarded out the lift that had the ivy on that we needed to stand on so we had to drag Youngerman platforms onto.
So we had to use a pair of safety harnesses to keep safe, and use a ladder to get to the top of the chimney stack.
It wasn’t safe to do the job as planned so we agreed to carry out repairs to last a year or so until they can build a correct scaffolding.
We had to reach between the pots to try to clean off the moss etc but that wasn’t easy, so i ended up tied to the hand rail while standing on a pole to stretch around the back to clean it and spray w**d killer.
The Ivy job was horrible very dirty and stuck to the wall like glue. And to remove the roots it needed to be scraped off with a scraper one brick at a time!!

And the last week and a half I have been working in Mapperley again making repairs to various windows making new timber sections and beading on site with my wood working equipment.
The scaffolding gave us easier access to the windows and the view over Nottingham is great on a clear day. But not when foggy lol!
The garage window was really bad and took a lot of work but it should last for years now once the painter has finished

I haven’t posted anything on here for ages but I have been busy making repairs to various windows at the same place as the brick work job.
The decorators have been working around the house finding more and more rotten wood for me to replace.
Here’s a few pictures

I’ve been doing more work for my client around his home and other properties around Nottingham.
I’ve been putting up timbers onto the ceiling for new curtains, ready for sale.
Then back to another property to carry on with repairs on the old sash windows. Where I’ve made new sill sections to match the old rotten ones.
Finished off the render and lead work on the roof.
And after a site break in in a new site we’ve boarded up the opening they used to steal £3500+ worth of materials.

I have not posted anything on Facebook for a while as ive just been busy working and taking pictures of what I’m doing.
For the last couple of weeks I’ve been working for my regular client in Beeston at his home.
I started off spending two days removing ivy from the face of the brickwork on the gable wall, and the return.
Once the ivy was removed I’ve been grinding out damaged bricks, and also at some point in the past before my clients bought the house over 30yrs ago, someone decided to replace the very old red hand thrown bricks with modern yellow bricks and orange engineering bricks.
And my client has always hated them. So after years of us looking up at the house and talking about doing this, it’s now it’s time.
I’m using a special tool with two oscillating blades to grind out the old lime mortar, but it throws dust everywhere…well mainly at me 😂
So I’m wearing my full face mask and bluetooth ear defenders so that i can drown out the noise with music.
Ive almost completed the brickwork, and then i have lots more repairs to do including refurbishing 8 sash windows.

Had a really had working week! I was asked on Tuesday afternoon if I could work with a labourer to build the formwork fortwo new garage bases in the two rear gardens of the new houses.
I then discovered that my assistant was only there until Wednesday night, and that wasn’t going to be enough time for me to get them built and also barrow in a few tons of roadstone needed to bring them up to height ready for concrete on Thursday.
So we had 1.5 long hard days Tuesday and Wednesday getting the first base up to height in road stone, and then on Thursday morning i was so pleased to be given 3 other guys to help me, and instead of just getting the bases ready the builder needed us to move around 12tons of top soil onto the two plots to make space for the concrete wagon to back up close enough to pour into the bays. Before bringing in another few tons of road stone in the second
Well it was very hard as I was on the rake pulling the soil around and then the stone, as I’ve twisted my knee this week on the uneven ground and struggling to walk, but we had it ready for 12.55pm and the concrete turned up at 1pm, and then I was working with one of the brick layers pulling the concrete around with a rake again filling the shutters.
And the tamping it off to a level.
By the end of Thursday I was completely spent and almost unable to walk, and my back was killing and unable to bend over.
Then on Friday i returned into the house to work on the kitchen again.
Here are a few pictures

This week I’ve been working with my window mate fitting a three panel sliding door, a very large door that we had to set as far forward as possible to allow it to fold back against the wall out of the way to allow people to walk along the patio. And a small window over the sink.

Ive also just completed work on refurbishing a bathroom for a friend. I’ve repaired the old style velux roof light, ive chopped off most of the old wall tiles and the backing plaster was coming off with the tiles, some sections came off easily but the wall behind the wc took me an hour and half as it was plywood and stuck really well. Once completed I over boarded the old wall left behind, before skimming it ready for painting.
I’ve fitted a new laminated floor and skirting boards, radiator and new LED lights.
I’ve painted the remaining tiles around the bath and WHB with tile paint two coats but it needs another couple to look finished.
I’ve also painted the whole room with two coats of emulsion and glossed the woodwork and the transformation is brilliant.

I have also now started working on 27a next door to the first house and I’ve been fitting the new kitchen and i have had a lot of work making the two vet holes for the two extraction pipes line up above the wall units, this took me over 4hrs alone, before I started to make the boxing to hide them from view once the kitchen is finished.

Laughton property maintenance hasn’t posted for quite a while. I’ve been really busy working since Christmas taking lots of pictures but just not posting anything.
I’ve been back working for a long time customer in Beeston, at the two new houses he’s building. Which is the start of 7 more this year so I’m hoping that I will be dropping in and out of here doing buts all year.
Any way I’ve returned to complete the kitchen i started before xmas, as the new tenants needed to move in mid February so I have been finishing off lots of random things around the house that others haven’t completed. Including making a bespoke wc boxing and shelving unit.

Had a busy week on a couple of jobs but the staircase job was very cold, as the client didn’t want me cutting inside, so i set up the trailer on the driveway connected it upto the house so i could use my chop saw, and heater to keep warm, but to save all the heat going straight out the back i closed the top half of the rear door and attached an old shower curtain to the bottom to keep the warmth inside. It was 17 degrees and nice and warm.
The staircase was an old ply board type that needed to be taken apart and the newel posts extended to take the new handrails.
Then spindles fitted up the slope and landing.
Then a matching handrail fitted to the wall side to match.
