You’ve heard of hygge. Here in Wales, we’re rather fond of a cwtch.

As the evenings draw in, a few days tucked away in a shepherd’s hut become very appealing. Come back from a walk, put the kettle on and get the fire going. There’s time for another game, another chapter, or simply staying exactly where you are.

Different countries have their own words for these moments of comfort and contentment. We’ve gathered a few to help you find your kind of autumn escape.

This little guy should be on his way to Argentina by now. ❤️

Ian spotted him on his way home late on Sunday night, exhausted and barely able to move. He brought him home, tucked him safely into a box for the night and contacted a local wildlife rescue team the next morning.

Last night, he was released from the cliffs overlooking Pendine, hopefully ready to continue a rather epic journey.

More than half of the world’s Manx shearwaters breed on the Pembrokeshire islands of Skomer, Skokholm and Ramsey. From late August into October, young birds leave their burrows at night and begin a migration of around 7,000 miles to the coast of South America.

Sometimes storms and strong winds blow them inland, while fog and artificial light can leave them disorientated.

We’re very glad Ian happened to be coming home when he did.

Safe travels, little one. Argentina is a long way from Meidrim.

One shepherd’s hut. 4.5 acres. That’s it.

When we created Meidrim Meadows, we had plenty of room to add more accommodation. But the space was one of the things we valued most when we went away ourselves.

So we kept it.

There’s a name for small sites like ours: micro glamping. We’ve written about what that means, why we like it and why sometimes the empty space is rather the point.

We've been out counting butterflies for the Big Butterfly Count. 🦋

From Friday 17 July to Sunday 9 August, Butterfly Conservation is encouraging everyone to spend 15 minutes recording the butterflies they see to help monitor the UK's butterfly populations.

We're lucky to have a wide variety of species visiting our meadow throughout the season.

Here are a few of the butterflies we've managed to photograph over the years (although not all were taken during this year's count).

We can often see bats darting around above our heads at dusk at Meidrim Meadows. We will definitely be joining in the survey.
