This page has sat quiet whilst I have been busy building a new venture in the shape of Totemik Boutique. Aiming to be ready for the summer this mobile / online shop space has made a good start. Please follow the story here and share if you like:

That said, as Springtime looms; gardens are starting to grow again. Today I'm out to tidy a tufty lawn, and start prepping to build a border bed.

Recently I salvaged some truss frames with thanks to The Phoenix Theatre & Arts Centre in Bordon and set about re-purposing them. This has led to spending my spare time over December making event props and restoring some Turbosound speakers needing an overhaul. The system has served a lot of venues around the city through the years, becoming part of larger rigs when required. All this put aside while I started a new chapter with my business and home life.

This weekend I had a chance to test run the newly cut frame, props and fresh cabinets at a last minute booking at The Admiral Drake in Portsmouth. 2026 marks a twenty year anniversary for this system, yet the first installation in this legendary rock venue.

For the last month I have been in your neighborhood as a Secret Santa delivering your Christmas cards and presents.
To do so I passed my Electric vehicle proficiency test with instructor Paul Weller, who shares his name with the musician from The Jam but not profession or haircut.

This was my second festive season as a multi drop driver with The Royal Mail. The job is testing, working late shifts in the dark, cold and wet is one thing; sporadic shift patterns based on customer spending another.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is as my contract runs out I start the New year back in self employment. I'd like to thank all of my customers for their support this year on helping my small business grow. If you are on my page reading otherwise then thank you also.

I have some exciting projects on the horizon and can't wait to share the news soon; but for now wish all who read this a fun filled, bright and creative new year.

Any day can lead to new venture. Remembering our local support networks who help those in need, I collected a van full of TENA disability products and donated them to The Bathroom bank hosted at St. Michael & All Angels, Paulsgrove.

I was met by Michelle & Mandy who talked me through the work they do, redistributing the items for free to members in need. Anyone is welcome to sign up but must bring I.D. They run a free Pet food bank from the same location, and hold a jumble sale with other low cost essentials to fund both projects, of course welcoming donations equally.

It can be a difficult time of year for garden work when it's less of a priority for some customers, but there is always something else to do.

These advertising boards required some attention, and whilst patina is important on vintage attire, a little restoration can add value. Purchased from B&Q, I used a quality walnut stain and varnish from Ronseal, with a Hammerite gloss. Available to buy these make the perfect gift for the upcoming holiday season.

Today's task, removal of this dormant yet charming Chestnut tree which has been causing havoc drinking the pond. The branches have been removed, with trunks recycled into a border for a new raised bed; back filled with wood chip on a membrane, two decorative pots for show and construction of a corner herb planter in the making.

These areas are important in nature, providing nestling areas for wildlife like Hedgehogs this time of year.

Three visits to Southsea this Sunday, the first in van for the boot sale on Duisburg way with my Retro Runners Repair and Recycle project. This market is free for the public to attend and a great way to pick up a bargain, open until the end of September 7am - 1pm. ( Portsmouth and Southsea Car Boot Sale )

Cycling back with a trailer in tow, I installed a Minirigs 2:1 combo in my basket and Fenton Audio portable speaker behind, with two flags purchased from The Flag and Bunting Store. Dom Whiting held Portsmouth's first Drum and bass bike ride, swamping the city's roads with positive vibration. Product review in this posts comments below.

The third visit made use of the Free bus service available every weekend this September. A journey to the beach saw in the Lunar eclipse. Waxing over an hour the Earth and Sun's shadow faded allowing light to glimmer on the sea, an awesome finish to the weekend.

In today's garden lesson....

S is for slow worm. I uncovered this young example of what is a legless lizard. Gauging age by the short length these harmless Anguis fragilis can grow up to 50 cm, and live to around 30 years.

Feasting on snails and slugs they are a true gardeners friend. It was a pleasure to meet newly named Simon today.

No yard too hard for TK!

This back garden was inaccessible for my customer, suffering from Ivy, Japanese maple and Virginia creeper all entwined in a blanket with random shrubs and weeds thrown in the mix.

After a heavy cutback normal service was resumed, leaving an open space for future dreams to be realised.
