The Top 100 Cottage Countdown 10th to 6th

Cottages are stitched into the fabric of British housing. Whether you are in the middle of a city, on the edge of a town, or tucked away in a village, there is something about a cottage that captures the imagination.

They connect us to history, reflect their surroundings, and remain one of the most desirable styles of home today.

Working with our friends at Denton House Research, who analysed Land Registry data from the last 10 years, we have uncovered the Top 100 most popular cottage names in the UK. Alongside the rankings, we are sharing the average sale prices achieved for each.

This week’s countdown takes us from 10th down to 6th and features Primrose Cottage, Church Cottage, Corner Cottage, Willow Cottage and Holly Cottage. Each of these names represents a slice of heritage that appeals to buyers across the country.

Rents Have Skyrocketed Across the UK – Is Your Property Keeping Up?

UK rents have changed dramatically over the last five years, but the headline figures only tell part of the story.

The current average UK rent is now well over £1k per month in many regions, with London sitting highest at £2,505, followed by the South East at £1,593, East Anglia at £1,366, the South West at £1,357 and the North West at £1,247.

London shows the strongest five year growth at +34%, but that needs context. Rents in the capital fell sharply during the pandemic in 2020, so the rebound looks larger than it would if looked at over a longer period.

Compared with 2019, London’s rental growth is much more in line with the rest of the UK, and in Inner London even sits slightly below the national average.

Scotland’s £1,201 average rent is also worth noting, heavily influenced by Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Rural areas, parts of the Highlands and smaller towns often sit much closer to North East levels.

Likewise, the North West figure is driven strongly by Greater Manchester, where demand and private rental supply are much higher. These are regional averages. Every town tells its own story.

UK Property Market Week 21 2026: The Bank Holiday Dip Arrived, Right on Cue

Week 21 did exactly what Week 21 normally does. It slowed down.

22,100 UK homes sold STC this week, down from 27,197 last week, but that is no great shock. It was a Bank Holiday week, and these weeks usually knock activity back by around 10% to 15%.

So, no panic. No collapse. Just the usual late May dip.

UK house prices on sales agreed are up 1.9% year on year, at £349.64 per sq ft.

Yet only 14.6% of agents’ stock went sale agreed in May, and only 53.9% of homes leaving agents’ books actually exchanged and completed.

New listings also eased back to 39,615, although supply remains well above longer term norms. Year to date, listings are still 5.1% ahead of 2024 and 14.1% above the 2017 to 2019 average.

That matters. Because buyers still have choice. And when buyers have choice, they become brutal. They compare harder. They negotiate harder.

They ignore anything that feels even slightly ambitious. The best priced homes are still selling. The over ambitious ones are just giving buyers another reason to scroll past.
