Today marks World Food Day, a global movement that reminds us all just how interconnected our food systems actually are.
Our natural ecosystems, and everyday survival for people around the world.
It is marked annually around the globe to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization back in 1945, focusing on raising awareness about global food security, ending hunger, and supporting sustainable agriculture.
When we think about global food security, we must talk about our most vital pollinators, honey bees. Bees play an indispensable role in maintaining our food supply by pollinating the vast majority of the world's crops, including essential fruits, vegetables, nuts, and oilseeds.
Without their constant, tireless work moving from bloom to bloom, yields would drop dramatically, leaving our supermarket shelves lacking the essential nutrients and vibrant varieties of foods that keeps us humans healthy and fed.
Beyond field crops and orchards, as we all know bees are equally essential for wild trees and plants that anchor our broader environment and sustain livestock.
By supporting healthy biodiversity, they are remarkable insects as are all but I am biased so help me and everyone else by doing what you can to safeguard our natural resources that farmers rely upon to grow food sustainably for generations to come.
Protecting all bees and their habitats is not simply an environmental goal, but a direct investment in our future.
