Sometimes the best souvenirs are the ones left behind. 💖

One of our lovely guests sketched this beautiful sheared Herdwick ram during their stay at Herdwick Barn, and we were so touched that we had to share it.

We love seeing the Yorkshire Dales through the eyes of our guests, whether that’s through photographs, stories, walks… or a wonderful sketch like this.

The Dent Vampire, linked to the Sedbergh area, is one of the Dales' most fascinating local tales. The story surrounds a man named George Hodgson, who was rumoured to have returned from the dead. Fearing the worst, villagers eventually took action and believed they had finally "laid" the vampire to rest.

One of the loveliest things about staying in the countryside is sharing it with the wildlife that calls it home. 🐦🤎

At the moment, Herdwick Barn has a very special guest of its own. A female blackbird has chosen the woodshed as the perfect place to build her nest and raise her chicks.

Some lovely guests recently left us this thoughtful note to help us spread the word to future visitors. It was such a kind gesture and a lovely reminder that sometimes the smallest acts of consideration make the biggest difference.

If you’re staying with us over the coming weeks, please take a little extra care around the woodshed and keep curious paws nearby on a lead in that area. With a bit of luck, there’ll soon be some tiny beaks peeking out to say hello. 🖤
