I went to a existing customer last week to remove a hob and install a new hob, the cooker switch was installed myself a couple of years ago, but when connected up, every time I screwed the cooker switch back, the LED light on the switch keep going out, so undone it again and then it worked, after disconnecting the main cable from the consumer unit, the wires were giving me 240volts, but not all the time, this lead for me to give the news to my customer that it needed a rewire.

Returned today, and tried to chase the cable back, but noticed that the outer colour of the cable was a lighter colour than the one going into the cooker switch, so this meant the cooker hood metal hood has to be removed, and some of the wall needed to be chased out to identify this.

So, it came to my conclusion that a piece of cable must have been added, but the splash back needed to be removed also, when this carefully was, and bang, I was spot on, the cable from the board was connected to a 20 amp connector block, and a piece of 6mm added on with the wires not properly connected, causing melting and blackness, this has overheated, and done by a ' diyer ' and would have caused a fire.

I remove all and installed a larger connector block with a 6mm cable.

Left all working but the wall in a mess.

A new customer got in touch with me to asked if I could remove the existing kitchen light and install a new light.

Went this morning and after a bit of hassle, finally installed a very happy customer.

A couple of weeks ago, and new customer of mine Sue from Kidbrooke asked me to fit a fan with light in her living room, when inspected, her ceiling was too low and made of plasterboard, so unfortunately I had to tell her that it was not possible.

However, on Facebook and Instagram, I came across a fan with light and very lightweight, with remote control and changes from cool white light to warm white light, with three speeds on the fan, after removing the existing light and installing a new light pendant, then inserted this, my customer and I was amazed at it, absolutely brilliant.

A new customer came to me as the lighting in the kitchen was not great, with only three down lighters that were working, and asked if he could have more .... 12 more and make it brighter.

After discussions with him and his wife, the positioning was vital and to the point of measuring out and try to get them equal distance.

So, as the three lights were feeding off three different switches, they wanted three rows of four lights controlled by each dimmer.

When I began, having drilling the holes out for the fire rated downlighters, I then came across many joists going in various directions, so I knew that this project was going to be very hard and need to be precise, so a 400mm wooden drill bit needed to get the cables from point to the next point.

After 3 days, eventually the lights were installed and working with 20 plus holes made.

Through recommendation, I went to Forest Hill to remove two security lights as they were halogen lights, and every expensive on the bills and installed two new LED lights with sensors at the front of the house and at the rear, with weatherproof boxes for the connections.

A last minute job for my mate Lee Murray and his company Murray decorators, his customer needed cables in her living room to be removed and put in neater to the socket, after lifting the floorboard and re - diverting the cables behind the skirting board to the socket.

So, Lee and his team can undertake the decorating this weekend.

Customer very happy.

A customer of mine Darren and Kristy from a couple of years ago wanted me to quote on installing shed electrics last year, but after a set back they got a hot tub installed and needing electrics for this and a barbecue, after assessing the set up and being informed of the power consumption, their electrics under the stairs has a couple of consumer units with no capacity, so I advised them to have a new board which consists of a main switch, a SPD ( Surge Protection Device ) and a circuit breaker, so that if any issues occur, this wouldn't affect the house, and this was mounted on two pieces of batten wood and the board mounted on this.

Whilst installing a new board, a new 6mm armoured cable was installed, clipped around the wall, across the pathway, and laid into the garden, around the hot tub enclosure, and into the shed.

The new garage consumer unit with RCD ( Residual Citcuit Device ) had two circuit breakers, one for the external socket for the hot tub and internal socket for power tools and another one for the barbecue, all having plastic tube to protect the cables.

After three days, finally completed and working.

One of my existing customers Chris and Katie asked me to quote and install new electrics to their garage as they were getting a new electric vehicle charging point, however, due to the company asking for a very specific electrics to be installed, I carried out a new 6mm armoured cable from the main consumer unit, around the wall at the top, and into their garage.

With a new garage consumer unit with RCD and one circuit breaker for the EV charger, and one for normal use inside the garage.

Just to return next week to finish off clipping and certification as its a new installation, with certification to them and notification to the local authority.

I went to a job to quote in September last year to get two garden lanterns working, as the weather has been against me doing this, today I went back to undertake this.

The new lanterns in place, assessing the wiring, it had wiring used for indoors only, and the tubing that had the cables in them were in bad way.

So with a new weatherproof box for all the connections, I install a cable called ' HO 5 ' with plastic flexible tube to contain the cable in and a switch fused spur to operate this.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a new customer Maureen and Chris from Belvedere, ( recommended by their daughter who is a previous customer ) has they have just bought a property and realised that not many sockets were in there, so asked me to quote for additional sockets and to be chased in the wall, along with a outdoor socket.

Returning back next week to install one socket for the TV in the bedroom.
