Hi everyone, I hope you’re all okay ❤️
You may have noticed I’ve been quiet for a while. The reason is that, as some of you may have seen, someone has slated me and my caravan on Facebook without knowing or sharing the full facts.
Yes, when the guests arrived, the caravan was in a mess. This was due to a mix-up with the cleaner and the dates. I sent a screenshot showing that the correct date had been given to the cleaner. As soon as I was made aware, I contacted the cleaner and they attended as soon as they could.
I was then told that the bed under the sofa was broken. Straight away, I offered to refund the cost of an air bed. There were four guests staying and there was still enough sleeping space for everyone, so I genuinely thought I was trying to be reasonable and find a solution.
A while later, I was asked for a £200 refund, which I refused because I had already tried to resolve the issue and offered a solution.
I also want to make something clear. I only charge enough to cover the bills, running costs and wear and tear of the caravan. I don't run the caravan to make a profit. If there is anything left over, I put it back into the caravan to improve it for future guests.
Then there is the wallpaper.
I have genuinely tried everything I can think of — proper wallpaper paste, PVA glue (after seeing it suggested online), No More Nails and wallpaper adhesive from B&M. I am still trying to find something that works properly.
One comment that did upset me was, “It’s not hard to hang wallpaper.”
Maybe it isn’t for everyone, but it can be when you’re a wheelchair user.
If I need something doing that I physically can't do myself, I ask my daughters for help. My youngest is 11 and currently going through that lovely awkward stage with a bit of an attitude 🙃😂, while my oldest is 20 and doesn't always come away with us.
I’ve now ordered some self-adhesive wallpaper, so hopefully my oldest will be able to put it up for me when she and her boyfriend go up in October. 🤞
Another thing that was mentioned was accessibility. Someone messaged me asking whether the caravan had a hoist and profiling bed. When I said it didn't, they told me I shouldn't advertise it as accessible.
I personally believe that if a wheelchair user can access and use a property, then it can be described as accessible. But I also understand that accessibility means different things to different people.
There are so many different disabilities and individual needs that no one caravan is going to suit everyone.
I don't ask people about their disabilities when they enquire. I simply provide as much information and as many pictures as I can, so people can decide whether the caravan is suitable for their own needs. If someone wants to contact me and explain their individual needs, I am more than happy to have that conversation — I just don't feel it's my place to ask.
I bought this caravan because it suited my own needs as a wheelchair user, and my intention was to give other people with similar needs the opportunity to have a holiday too. ❤️
All I'm trying to say is that I'm doing my best.
As my mum reminded me, it isn't my job to please everyone. We all have different tastes, opinions and expectations.
To me, I love my caravan. ❤️
And with guests who keep coming back, it can't be that bad! 😂❤️
I just wanted to explain my side of things because sometimes there is a lot more to a situation than what gets posted on Facebook.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support me, book with me and understand that I'm only one person trying my best. ❤️
