Lime plastering - usually 3 coat work, possible rendering.

Masonry shouldn't be painted, certainly when it comes to solid-walled properties. The paint, often plastic-based, traps moisture in the walls. Painting your house could cause major damp issues and masonry decay.

We specialise in the removal of plastic coatings. These coatings trap moisture in the wall, and the moisture will take the path of least resistance, often ending up inside your home as the damp you can see.

The trapped moisture will often push the paint off the wall after some time. When masonry remains wet for a prolonged period of time, it will start to decay, as will timbers.

When painting your masonry, choose a limewash or good quality clay-based paint.

When removing paint, you'll need a gentle approach, like DOFF, to remove the paint without causing further damage to the masonry. Sandblasting and other abrasive methods will often do more harm than good.

Using superheated water to clean stonework is a much safer option as it allows you to work at low pressure. The heat also ensures that any biological matter is killed off and takes longer to reappear.
