Who’s Responsible?
The Man with a Van (Waste Carrier) – If someone illegally dumps your waste, they’re committing a serious offense under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Penalties can include unlimited fines, up to £50,000 in a Magistrates’ Court, or even prison. Their vehicle could also be seized.
The Person Who Hired Them (You) – As a householder or business, you have a legal “duty of care” to make sure your waste is disposed of properly by an authorised carrier. If your waste ends up fly-tipped, you could be fined or prosecuted if you can’t prove you did your homework.
We’re not trying to scare you — just keep it real. There’s loads of “cheap” people out there claiming government funding, not paying tax, and doing the job for peanuts. Reality check: tipping general waste alone costs around £180 + VAT on a good day. Be realistic when booking a company — quality and compliance matter.
