The fascinating history of Thimble Cottage, in Great Haywood, Staffordshire 🪡
The cottage is a stone’s throw from where the author JRR Tolkien lived and was inspired to write the Lord of the Rings ⛰️
Originally a butcher’s shop, you can see Thimble Cottage in the centre of the antique photograph. With no record of how old the cottage is, we can’t put an age on this beautiful building!
Fast forward to 2026, after a thoughtful renovation Thimble Cottage is now a perfect holiday cottage for visitors of Cannock Chase, Shugborough Estate and Stafford Showground 🐄
The cottage is designed with guests in mind, and is positioned just across the road from a beautiful village pub, The Clifford Arms 🍷
Visitors love the original features, including a working fireplace and stone (plus quarry tile) flooring.
We aim to share the unique charm and history of our wonderful little cottage in Stafford with all of our future guests 🪡
The cottage is available year-round, for up to three guests, and is a wonderful base for exploring the village, nearby towns, canals and walking routes 🥾
