Nice job trying to stop this mature laburnum from peeling to bits, so decided to do some rod bracing to reinforce the failing union. We also planted a replacement laburnum next to it in preparation for when the time comes to have to remove the tree.

So last week we finished taking down a large copper beech in a garden. The tree had been condemmed along time ago due to the presence of a decay fungi (Kertschmaria duesta) at the base that had been established for many years. There was no crane access so it had be climbed and rigged. Ali did an amazing job at geting the tree down safely and Dave and myself were working the rigging ropes on the ground. Well done guys! it was a tough 3 days but we pulled it off in a safe and professional manner.

A large woodland edge wych elm which has a significant structural defect at the base of the tree. The twin stems have a tight union with included bark (photo far right). A neighbouring sycamore has also grown into the elm at a height providing mutual support to one another. To lower the risk of one of the stems failing, I prescribed a crown reduction. By reducing the hieght of the trees, the lever arm effect and sail factor is redcued which reduces mechanical loading at the base of the tree where the weakness is. Woodland edge trees are important wind buffers for trees inside the woodland so they need careful management as their removal may involve further trees failing. It was a fiddly job as we had to work on a steep slope andcarefully around a large garage under the crown!

Here we have a large, mature Deodar cedar in the middle of a high target are - a school car park. A very attractive species but arguably not the best to have in the a car park as the the brittle wood is prone to failing particulalry so in extreme weather such as snowy and windy weather. Davey C is removing end weight from the large lower limbs to reduce lever arm, he is also removing major deadwood and aerially inspecting the crown for defects. This tree will be reinspected every 18months by Treeation which helps the tree owner meet their 'Duty of Care' and helps to avoid damage to people and property

So here we have a mature lime tree in a car park. The tree is seriously suffering with clear signs of extensive dieback and mistle-toe infestation in the upper crown. Given its location and potential to cause harm if it failed, I opted to top the tree by 50%. I also thinned out the remaining lower crown to improve the future branch structure. Rather than completely removing the tree, this option gives the tree another chance in life!

A large weeping willow reduction undertaken by the Treeation team. We undertook the work to reduce further risk of large limb failure (a large limb failed a couple of weeks ago). It was a tough day for the team battling in serious hot weather but we survived!
