Just a little garden project made from recycled materials. 🌱

An old galvanised water tank, some reclaimed timber and a set of heavy-duty castors that once belonged to a server cabinet have found a new purpose as a rolling planter for a young Loganberry plant.

The castors mean it can be moved around the garden as needed, while the reclaimed timber gives it a warmer, more finished look.

Next up I’ll be making a support frame from more reclaimed timber and some offcuts of rebar to train the canes as it grows.

The space beneath the Loganberry won’t go to waste either—I’ll be planting herbs and pollinator-friendly flowers to encourage bees into the garden.

Not every project has to be a big one. Sometimes it’s just nice to give old materials a second life and create something a little different.

A bespoke modification to create a more flexible meeting space.

This project was all about adapting an existing piece to better suit the space and how it needed to be used.

The customer had an existing reclaimed timber table and bench, but the table height didn’t match their other large meeting table. The aim was to create a solution that allowed both tables to be joined together when larger groups needed the extra space.

The original metal base was removed and replaced with a new bespoke timber leg system, made using reclaimed hardwood door frame timber combined with scaffold board timber.

The new legs were designed and built to raise the table to the correct height while keeping the character of the reclaimed materials and complementing the existing furniture.

A simple change that has made the space far more versatile — proving that sometimes the best solution is adapting what you already have rather than replacing it.

Creating a new outdoor living space using reclaimed materials 🌿🔨

This project was all about making the best use of available materials while creating a strong, long-lasting deck that complements the customer’s recently completed extension.

The decking boards and joists were reclaimed, so the first step was assessing the materials and carefully planning the layout to maximise both the usable space and the timber available.

As part of the deck extends over the existing lawn, longevity and structural stability were key considerations. 4x4 support posts were installed into the ground using Postcrete, with each post protected using Postsaver sleeves to help extend service life below ground level. A treated timber subframe was then constructed and secured using structural timber screws.

The reclaimed 4x2 joists were laid perpendicular to the subframe and supported within a substantial 6x2 outer frame. For added strength, the joists were both screwed and fitted with galvanised joist hangers.

Once the structure was complete, the decking boards were laid out from the house, finishing with a double picture-frame border detail to create a clean, bespoke appearance. Wide access steps were incorporated across the front of the deck, providing an easy transition into the garden.

The underside has also been temporarily dog-proofed to keep the homeowners’ four-legged family members safe until the next phase of the project begins, which will include bespoke planters and gates to separate the deck from the lawn area.

It’s always satisfying turning a pile of reclaimed timber into something both practical and attractive, while ensuring the finished structure is built to stand the test of time.

🪵 New workshop project…

Brought this Facebook Marketplace find into the workshop tonight and wasted no time investigating what might be hiding beneath the black paint.

A quick test with some wire wool and methylated spirits started revealing what appears to be the original stained timber finish underneath, along with some lovely grain and detailing that had been completely hidden away.

It’s still very early days, but first impressions are promising and I have a feeling this piece might have more potential than I originally thought.

The plan now is to strip a full section back and see exactly what we’re working with before deciding on the final finish.

Not every gate needs replacing… 🔨

When I first looked at these driveway gates, significant rot had taken hold in the top rail and several structural components. While replacement is often the first thought, there was still plenty worth saving.

Both gates were removed and stripped back, allowing all rotten timber to be identified and removed. The decayed top section of the frame was replaced, rotten areas were treated and repaired where appropriate, and the original tongue-and-groove boarding was removed.

New heavyweight bottom rails and braces were then manufactured and fitted, with joints glued and dowelled for added strength. Before assembly, all new timber was treated with Sikagard 5 Star Wood Treatment, including the tongues and grooves, helping to protect the gates from future moisture ingress.

Once rebuilt, the gates were rehung using the existing hardware and carefully adjusted.

The result is a solid, refreshed set of driveway gates with many more years of service ahead of them — achieved without the cost of a complete replacement. The customer will be finishing the gates to add further protection, they just need to pick a colour!

A bespoke utility storage setup completed this week ✔️

The customer wanted to make better use of this space while keeping everything clean, practical and in keeping with the rest of the home — so we designed and built custom timber shelving tailored specifically around the tumble dryer and available storage space.

Also fitted a wall-mounted Dyson charging dock to keep everything organised and off the floor 👌

Bespoke storage solutions like this are a great way to maximise awkward spaces while keeping a clean, uncluttered finish.

Another living room transformed with bespoke wall panelling 👌

Carefully planned out using laser levels to ensure every panel lines through perfectly across the room — finished with clean proportions and subtle detailing to complement the space.

The customer will now be colour drenching the walls and panelling together, which is going to completely change the feel of the room and really make the mouldings stand out.

Simple additions like this can add a huge amount of character without overwhelming a space.

Really pleased with how this one turned out 🔨
