Adventure awaits… My daughter Teddy took this great snap on the way down to the beach. You get such great long shadows at this time of year and the weather is delightful. Great to have a sunny weekend after the first few days back at school. Are we in “Indian Summer” territory yet or too soon to be calling it that?

Bank holiday Monday boat trip from Totnes down to Dartmouth where the River Dart meets the sea (clue is on the name)! A lovely day out on the boat club safety boat Grey Goose with bacon sandwiches in Totnes first thing, enjoying the peaceful quiet of the remote stretches of the Dart and then the hustle and bustle of Dartmouth with crab sandwiches and chips overlooking the harbour. The weather threatened to turn had at times but it stayed dry and sunny most of the day and I enjoyed the evening sun waiting for the tide to rise enough to put the boat away in Stoke Gabriel. Pretty perfect bank holiday!

Ad. Drumroll… The family bathroom is finished! Want to take a look? We’re thrilled with how it’s turned out thanks to the brilliant teams at , , , , , , , , and .official , who we have drawn together to create something really special. Cormac, Kate and I can’t wait to start using this room (although eventually we’ll have a master ensuite for Kate and I).

Ad. The family bathroom is nearly complete and we’re into that really fun finishing touches phase now. We’ve order a piece of artwork for the wall from .official . We wanted something big and bright and bold that would bring a splash of colour - I think this does just that.

This is the White Whale from Moncasso, a gallery-quality, giclée canvas print in the floating gold frame. Moncasso describe it as a quirky vintage painting style print featuring a majestic white whale floating beneath an antique ship, in a soft teal blue ocean. We love it because it reminds us of the white whale from Moby Dick, a book our youngest, Cormac, loves.

Kate and I are in the bustling Totnes Market today hunting for a stool for the new family bathroom. If you’ve not been before, it’s well worth checking out Totnes Market which is held every Friday and Saturday and has a great range of stalls. We’re so lucky having this a few minutes walk from Totnes House.

We bought the stool from and the Bao buns from but to be honest you can’t go wrong in this market - all the stalls are brilliant!

Ad. We’re cracking on with the family bathroom and we’re installing new skirting boards, architraves and plinth blocks today, all replicas of the lovely ornate skirting boards that are found elsewhere in the house, loving made to be an exact match by the talented team at .

Big shout out to the brilliant carpenters Will and Jack from too - they have done a fantastic job of installing all this.

The first parts of this video were shot earlier in the summer when the grass was looking a lot greener - it’s not looking like that since the hose pipe ban came into force sadly!

Ad. We’ve had a big day on the family bathroom front - the second fix has been done and most of the bathroom suite from is in now including the huge cast iron bath, wooden vanity unit, solid brass shower fixtures and a gorgeous hand crafted towel rail from .

It’s so great when you have those days when you come back home and the work the builders have done is so obvious (so often all their hard work is hidden away or not obvious and you think, “What have they done today?!”).
