350+ snags in one Duchy Homes new build — and the bottle under the bath wasn’t even the worst thing we found. 🍾

Our surveyors carried out a comprehensive snagging inspection on this new home and uncovered issues including poor brickwork, blocked drainage, unconnected extraction ducts, damaged bathroom units, creaking shower trays and mould to the skirting boards.

Our snag list included extras the homeowner had paid for but hadn’t received, including a wall-mounted unit and plinth lighting.

In total, we raised over 400 snags, earning this Duchy Homes property a 0/5⭐️ HomeSnag rating.

Measure once cut twice is the motto of this new build. We can appreciate the appeal of buying this home in the countryside however it’s a good job these homeowners booked us. Snags ranged from missing areas of under floor heating to having to sand down walls + cut down skirting boards to allow drawers to open. There were also concerns over falls from height from a timber balcony and raised driveway. If you’re buying a new build make sure to get a home snag before it’s too late

We raised over 300 snags on this new build by a small local house builder. Many of the issues were in breach of building regulations or in breach of common sense, such as a dangerous staircase. We’re snagging this HarperCrewe new build and it’s our first rating for them. Our surveyor is giving it 2.5⭐️ as we raised over 150 snags which is a typical amount of snags that we find on a new build this size. Issues ranged from poor soil prep, to a leaking shower. If you are buying or are living in a new build, make sure to get a home snag before it’s too late.

🏡 Same developer. Same surveyor. Same day. Completely different results.

Today we inspected two Taylor Wimpey new build homes located just a few miles apart. Despite being built by the same developer, the quality and workmanship varied significantly between the two sites.

It’s a reminder that when buying a new build, the developer’s name alone doesn’t guarantee quality. Every property should be judged on its own merits, which is why a professional snagging survey from us is so important before your builder’s responsibility comes to an end.

Most new build homeowners don’t venture up in the loft and so its an important reason to get our surveyors around to check it’s been built properly 🏚️👷‍♂️

A lot of the most serious issues we raise aren’t always the blatant ones you can see, it’s rather the missing installations. In this instance the builder hadn’t installed restraint straps securing the gable wall to the roof on one side and the other side they may as well have not bothered trying.

Other snags included walls not straight, large gaps in the staircase and bowing window boards.
We raised over 150 snags in total and it’s a good job this homeowner booked us. Unlike most other snagging companies, our professional snaggers are qualified surveyors and we’re a company regulated by RICS.
