🏡 Is social housing disappearing from our communities?
In this insightful article, Penny Post takes a closer look at the growing impact of social housing sell-offs - especially in rural areas like West Berkshire. It explores why the problem is happening, what councils and regulators can’t currently do to stop it, and the ideas that could help turn things around.
It’s a complex issue - but one that affects the future of our communities. Definitely worth a read 👇

This is good news from Easyfundraising that we are getting a small donation from them this month on their donation day! And is all thanks to supporters shopping on line. Every little bit helps us in our work to create assets for the community, forever. Please consider signing up to Easyfundraising with Windsor Ascot &Maidenhead Community Land Trust as your cause. It doesn’t cost you anything, as the seller pays a small amount from their sales, even from your weekly supermarket shop! Thank you.

A big thank you to everyone who came along today to talk with us about the future of the community centre at the Windsor Arch development.

We had some really thoughtful conversations and it was genuinely uplifting to meet so many people who care deeply about where they live and the kind of community they want to be part of.

This is exactly what community action should feel like.

If you’d like to stay involved, please follow the page to keep up to date.
And if you’re able to, you can also support the work of WAMCLT by becoming a member for just £1 via our website.

We need your support – Windsor Arch Community Centre

A quick heads up about something that really matters for our community 👇

When the Windsor Arch development in Oakley Green was approved, the community was promised a community centre owned by local people.

That matters. Because ownership means security, control and a space that truly belongs to the community.

Now, that’s at risk of changing.

Instead of being transferred to the community, the building may be offered on a leasehold basis instead.

We believe this space should be protected for the long term, exactly as originally agreed.

👉 If you care about having a proper, secure community space in west Windsor, please come along and find out more:

No pressure, just information and a chance to have your say.

Please share with anyone local who might want to be involved 💛

Your Centre. Your Community.

Many residents will know about the Windsor Arch development at Oakley Green — the large new housing development of 320 homes on Dedworth Road next to Aldi.

As part of the planning permission approved by RBWM in 2023, a Section 106 legal agreement required the developer to provide a new community centre and transfer it FREEHOLD to the community.

Freehold means the building would be owned by the community permanently.

Last autumn, Windsor Ascot & Maidenhead Community Land Trust (WAMCLT) was approached by the developer Vistry (under the Bovis brand) to help plan the future management of this new centre. We prepared and submitted a full draft management plan.

However, the developer has now indicated they intend to offer the building leasehold instead of freehold.

Leasehold means the community would not truly own the building.
Freehold means permanent community ownership.

We believe the original agreement should be honoured.

A community centre should belong to the community.

To help residents understand the issue and discuss the future of the building, we are hosting a Community Information Session:

📍 Kerith Community Hub, Dedworth Road
📅 Saturday 28 March
⏰ 9am – 12pm

Please come along to learn more, ask questions and help support community ownership of this important local asset.

Together we can ensure this centre serves local people for generations.
