In light of recent building collapses in the country, let’s take a moment to understand foundations.

A foundation is not just the base of a building - it determines the strength and stability of the entire structure. 🌐🏗️

There are two main types of foundations:

1. Shallow Foundations
• Isolated footing
• Combined footing
• Strip footing
• Raft foundation

2. Deep Foundations
• Pile foundation
• Pier foundation

The type of foundation used depends on factors like soil condition, the weight of the structure, and how deep stable ground can be found. Choosing the wrong foundation can lead to settlement, cracks, or even total structural failure.

Simple guide:
• Good soil + light load → Shallow foundation
• Weak soil + heavy load → Deep foundation

A poor foundation choice may not be obvious at first - but over time, it reveals itself through cracks, instability, and potential collapse.

Few days ago, I requested additional reinforcement from my chief worker, and when I arrived on site, I was pleasantly surprised to see this young man working exceptionally well. I couldn’t help but admire his dedication and craftsmanship —truly impressive!

I thought he was underage, until I checked his identity card and found out Togolese don’t always look their age.😂
