Greece just announced a major tax change for non-EU property buyers.
At the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on September 6, the Greek Prime Minister confirmed that the Property Transfer Tax will rise from 3% to 15% for buyers who are nationals of countries outside the EU, effective 2027.
On a €500,000 property, that’s the difference between €15,000 and €75,000 in tax alone.
The measure is not yet law, and some details are still being finalized (including how dual nationals will be treated). But the direction is clear: this window won’t stay open indefinitely.
If you’re a non-EU buyer considering a property in Greece, now is the time to talk timeline.
