Featured in the collage is The Crestmont, a DMCI Homes development along Panay Avenue in South Triangle, Quezon City. Beside the actual building is its 3D scale model, which was used for wind tunnel testing prior to construction.
With around 20 tropical cyclones entering the Philippines each year, wind engineering is crucial in ensuring the safety and durability of buildings. DMCI Homes partners with experts like AIT Solutions, the engineering arm of the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, to test and refine their designs.
Inside AIT Solutionsโ wind tunnel lab, scale models are exposed to simulated wind conditions that reflect the projectโs actual surroundings. These tests provide valuable data that help optimize structural design, refine building facades, and enhance the safety and comfort of future residents.
This testing process also verifies the performance of DMCI Homesโ Lumiventtยฎ Design Technology, which promotes natural airflow and cross-ventilation in high-rise buildings. Wind tunnel results, paired with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, ensure that this airflow doesn't come at the cost of wind resistance or building stability.
Developments like The Crestmont are prime examples of how DMCI Homes uses performance-based design and testing to create safer, smarter, and more climate-resilient homes.
