'Maghera Beach in Spring' oil on board, is now framed and presently for sale.
A personal favourite. An attempt to convey in paint my unforgettable experience of a marvellous beach in South Donegal.

September - Latest painting, on the way.
Second in the series βMaghera Beachβ
The subject of the painting.
This is one of those immense, deserted beaches where you find yourself all alone, -I visited there in April,
But not just alone, ..sublimely alone β
By which I mean, almost overwhelmed with a consciousness of nothing but the all-pervasive silence and the elements stretching and sprawling out in every direction. A great sandy expanse between me and the far, far distant sea and its vaporous mirage-like thread of white-crested waves spanning the shimmering horizon.
I say silence, yet not absolute, of course. There was the constant rhythm of the sea, -low, remote and sweetly mesmerising.
Looming rocky slopes reared up steeply on one side, from which protruded contorted arches and huge, jutting, twisted buttresses of rock, the shadowed spaces between filled with some strange solemn silence, and where water continually drips and trickles within secret, damp, tunnel-like caves.
I ventured forth, where walking was more like ploughing than walking, through torpid waves of gleaming sand towards the ever elusive, ever unreached sea. My sandy golden path interlaced with blue streams and pools, and interspersed with small islands of spikey, angular rock dangling their neat reflections in their shallow encircling pools.
This is what I am, more or less, attempting to paint just now -not the beach, merely, but the experience of it
A beach best experienced in solitude.
Picture coming soon.
