Lets find these stones today! We have a lot of stone around the property, remains from an old stone barn (long gone). Some hiding in areas that are now a little over grown.

Busy week on the little farm! We’ve got our new composting bins ready for next year's planned growing expansion. The goal is to fill two of them by October, leaving the other two free for next year's batch.
We also made some progress on the cottage wall consolidation. The next step is stone stitching on two sections. Adding larger stones across these poorly constructed areas will add some much-needed strength. Down the line, we’ll do some Helifix work on the corners, but for now, we're tackling a couple of areas with historic cracks. These formed easily over time due to straight joints in the stonework. We’re consolidating the adjacent area with repointing first. Once that cures, we’ll add the stitching stones across the crack, specifically in the zone between the window and the doorway (roughly marked in blue).
As usual, we're splitting our time between the things we love: GROWING! and everything the cottage needs.

About us: we arrived in Mayo exactly 12 months ago. We are a young 62yrs and 57yr old couple living the dream.
We have skills, I have worked in the historic building restoration industry for 30yrs and my wife runs a dog behavioural business.
Our aims are simple, enjoy the land, grow some of our own food, be resilient in the way we live and restore our cottage carefully with the right materials at our own pace.
