Art has the power to transform a space.

For me, it is never simply the finishing touch to an interior. The right piece of art can change the atmosphere of a room, create a sense of connection and individuality, and bring together architecture, materials, colour and light in a way that nothing else can.

I’m delighted to be part of Design Week Dublin this September for The Importance of Art in Designed Spaces, a conversation exploring exactly this relationship between art and interiors.

Hosted at the wonderful Gerard Byrne Gallery, I’ll be joined by James O’Halloran, art specialist and Director at Adam’s Auctioneers, and Helena Hart, property expert and History of Art graduate, with the conversation moderated by Deirdre Coleman, interior designer and presenter of RTÉ’s Home Rescue: The Big Fix.

With such different perspectives across art, interiors and property, I’m looking forward to exploring how original and handmade work can add depth, character and emotion to a considered space — and why art should be thought about from the very beginning of the design process, rather than simply added at the end.

As someone with a background in Fine Art Sculpture, I’ve always believed that art and design are intrinsically connected. A beautiful interior should have a story, and art is often at the heart of that story.

A quiet moment of considered design 🤍

For the guest bedroom within our latest project, every detail has been chosen to create a sense of warmth, softness and understated luxury.

The bed is layered with a throw from our The Art of Bed Dressing collection adding texture and a subtle tonal contrast to the natural upholstery. Beside it, the wall light has been carefully selected for its sculptural form and slender profile — designed to complement the curves and proportions of the bespoke bed head rather than compete with it.

A simple combination of tactile fabrics, warm timber and beautifully considered lighting creates a calm and inviting space.

I’ll be joining five brilliant fellow interior designers for the Design Round Table at this year’s Dublin Design Week — an opportunity to share ideas, experiences and the thinking behind the spaces we create. Founded by editors and publishers Jane and Sarah McDonnell DWD is an inspiring event.

Designed with comfort and longevity in mind, this guest bedroom balances simplicity with warmth. Another more contemporary side to our Victorian home.

While we carefully restored and celebrated the original period features throughout many areas, the basement offered an opportunity to introduce a contrasting, contemporary aesthetic.

Through a considered palette of colour and materials, we emphasised clean architectural lines and the way natural light moves through the space. Soft blues, warm timber and tactile, organic tiles come together to create a calm, restorative atmosphere.

A softer palette defines the guest bedroom in this 1860s Victorian home, where gentle pale blue walls provide a calm backdrop to the original proportions and architectural detailing. The restored fireplace, decorative cornicing and wall panelling celebrate the character of the house, while carefully chosen contemporary pieces bring a quiet sense of balance.

The bespoke upholstered bed is dressed simply with our linen bedcover, accented with elegant blue piping that echoes the room’s palette. Sculptural bedside lighting, dark timber furniture and curated artwork introduce contrast and warmth without competing with the heritage of the space.

As throughout the home, there are no statement pieces demanding attention—just a thoughtful layering of materials, textures and proportions that work together to create a welcoming and restful retreat for guests.

At this 1860s Victorian home, the dialogue between old and new informed every design decision.

In the principal bedroom, an elegant freestanding wardrobe sourced from sits comfortably alongside the original fireplace, bringing a sense of history, character and permanence to the space. A sculptural gold wall light from introduces a contemporary counterpoint, adding warmth and visual interest.

A palette of olive green and burnt orange creates a scheme that feels both rich and restrained, while our bedcover dresses the bespoke bed with understated elegance.

Rather than relying on a single statement piece, this room is defined by layers of carefully considered elements working together in harmony with the home’s original architecture — creating a calm, timeless sanctuary designed for rest.

One of the highlights for me in Copenhagen in the last week was visiting the stunning showroom of .

The beauty, calm, mix of antiquities with contemporary artefacts, subtle lighting effects and varied scents all managed to create a space that was truly unique & memorable!
