Kenya discovers rare earth minerals

Fiction vs Reality:

A Perspective Imagine if Wakanda discovered Vibranium and the first instinct was: “How do we sell this to other nations?” They wouldn’t be the advanced, self-sufficient civilization we admire today. Wakanda’s strength came from control, patience, and vision not quick deals or external dependence.

Now bring that into reality.

Kenya has discovered rare earth minerals in the Mrima Hill, resources that power everything from smartphones to electric vehicles and modern defense systems. These are not just minerals; they are the foundation of future global economies.

But instead of asking: “How do we control this, process it, and build industries around it?”
The conversation seems to lean toward: “Who can we sell it to?”

And that’s the difference between owning your future and trading it away.

Nations that dominate today didn’t just extract resources, they built ecosystems around them: refining, manufacturing, technology, and global leverage. Rare earth minerals are the backbone of industries like Renewable Energy, Electronics Engineering, and Defense Technology.

So the real question isn’t whether Kenya has something valuable, it clearly does.

The question is:
Will it think like Wakanda… or like a supplier?

I once asked a real estate agent a simple question: “Would you live here?” He paused… then said no. That told me everything.

We spend so much time focusing on CVs, experience, and qualifications when hiring, but we rarely ask the most important question: do you actually believe in what you’re selling?

Because here’s the truth, you don’t need to own a property to sell it and you don’t need to live in an area to market it. But if you wouldn’t choose it, if you don’t genuinely rate it, clients can feel that instantly.

And it doesn’t stop at agents. I’ve seen property managers who don’t understand the homes they manage, staff who can’t answer basic questions, and events that completely miss the people living there. At that point, it’s not service anymore it’s just a job.

Meanwhile, clients are buying more than property. They’re buying lifestyle, experience, and identity. And the moment reality doesn’t match the pitch, they leave.

One thing I’ve noticed in the UK is that some companies don’t even prioritise experience. They openly say, “No experience needed. We’ll train you.” Why? Because they’re hiring for energy, communication, people skills, and belief. Skills can be taught, authenticity can’t.

So next time you hire someone, ask yourself: would they choose what you’re selling? Because if they wouldn’t, why should your clients?

Location, location, location… you hear it all the time and it actually matters.
Choosing where to live or invest isn’t about showing off, chasing hype, or following where your friends are. It’s not just about being close to work either. It’s about the full picture, finding a place that truly works for you and ticks most, if not all, of your boxes.

For me, it’s always deeper than the obvious. Is it peaceful? After a long day, the last thing I want is constant noise outside my window. Is it safe? Can my family feel secure, and can my kids play freely without worry? Are essential amenities close by? If I run out of something simple, like my favorite coffee — I don’t want to be driving 20+ minutes just to find it.

Then comes affordability and lifestyle. Can I comfortably enjoy the space around me? Take a walk, breathe in fresh air, and appreciate the greenery? What about infrastructure, does the area experience blackouts, and if so, what solutions are in place? And something many overlook: drainage and sanitation. With the recent heavy rains in Kenya, we’ve seen even prime areas struggle with flooding often because developers focused on speed over sustainability.

At the end of the day, the right location isn’t about status, it’s about alignment. It’s about choosing a place that supports your lifestyle, protects your peace, and adds real value to your everyday living.

Because where you live isn’t just an address, it’s a decision that shapes your quality of life.

Three months ago, I moved back to London and realized something quickly, the housing landscape has changed.

After pivoting from a career in security into real estate, and spending years in Kenya gaining clarity post-pandemic, returning to the UK felt like stepping into a completely new market with new rules.

Where should you live in London today, is renting smarter than buying, should you follow your community or create your own path?

What areas actually make strategic sense in 2026?

I’ve launched a new series called The UK Housing Blueprint, a practical breakdown of living, renting, buying, affordability, and positioning yourself correctly in the UK property market.

This isn’t coming from a self-proclaimed UK property guru or a salesperson chasing the next deal. It’s simply drawn from my personal experience and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

If you’re relocating, returning to the UK, or thinking long-term about property, this series is for you.

Read the first article here: https://www.habibiestate.com/post/the-uk-housing-blueprint-a-strategic-guide-to-living-renting-buying-in-london

After returning to London post-pandemic, I realized the housing landscape had completely changed. This UK Housing Blueprint series explores where to live, renting vs buying, affordability, community, and building a strategic life in the UK today.
