Scientists have discovered that the plum is packed with polyphenols that can make cancer cells self-destruct with ease..
In a study published by Springer Nature, compounds like quercitrin were found to boost the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio – a key signal that triggers apoptosis (cell death) in human lung cancer cells. Even more surprising? At higher doses, plum polyphenols outperformed vitamin C in killing cancer cells.
The research also revealed that these compounds disrupt the PI3K/AKT/FOXO1 pathway, a survival system that cancer cells rely on to grow and spread.
Other studies (MDPI, Cancer Center for Healing) show plums carry a cocktail of powerful antioxidants – chlorogenic acid, rutin, epicatechin – all linked to anti-cancer effects across different cancer types.
