Finding Home Again โ and Opening the Door for Others in Kenya ๐ฐ๐ช
After living and working abroad for over twenty-five years, the time came for me to start my return homeโto reconnect deeply and intentionally with my motherland, Kenya. That return plan was not accidental. It was profoundly personal.
In December 2023, while working in corporate America and based in Florida, I was diagnosed with 2 autoimmune ailments and underwent life-altering spinal cord surgery, just two weeks after my 53rd birthday. In the quiet aftermath of recovery, clarity arrived with certainty: my healingโphysically, emotionally, and spirituallyโbelonged at home, in the mountains, on ancestral soil, under the watchful majesty of Mount Kenya.
I am proudly from the GEMA communityโan acronym for Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akambaโtribes woven together by history, heritage, and kinship. Returning to this land was not simply a relocation; it was a homecoming.
From Healing to Purpose
When my husband, Professor Bernard, and I decided to purchase property in Kenya with my recovery in mind, I never imagined how deeply I would fall in love with the savannah lifestyle, the serenity of nature, and the unmatched peace of the Nanyuki region.
That love blossomed into purpose.
What began as a personal healing journey soon grew into a tourism enterprise in the heart of Nanyukiโcreating employment for local residents, supporting families daily, and extending community service to vulnerable households who are now, truly, family by extension. To this day, children run toward my car as I drive through Segeraโparticularly Tutu Village. Each moment humbles me and reminds me of the words of Christ:
โLet the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.โ โ Matthew 19:14
These children, this land, this communityโthey changed me.
Opening Pathways for Others
As my love for this region deepened, I felt a strong calling to help others find their own place of peace in Kenyaโespecially returnees from the diaspora and global citizens drawn to nature, wildlife, simplicity, and a life of meaning beyond the chaos of overcrowded cities.
