A client once asked us something during moving day that nearly finished us.
“Mkibeba hii mattress vizuri… memories zangu pia zitakuwa safe?”
At first we laughed.
Then we realized he was serious.
Because moving houses in Nairobi is never just about furniture.
Sometimes people are escaping:
- toxic neighbours
- rent pressure
- heartbreak
- bad memories
- or simply trying to restart life quietly
And somehow…
The most emotional people during moving day are always the ones pretending they’re “very strong.”
Until they find old photos while packing.
Then suddenly someone is sitting on a carton staring into the distance like a Netflix character.
But the funniest part?
Neighbours.
Nobody investigates like Kenyan neighbours during moving day.
Curtains open kidogo.
Balconies full.
Even people who never greet you suddenly become interested in your life.
By evening the whole apartment knows:
who moved,
who cried,
and who definitely forgot something inside the kitchen cabinet.
Nairobi moving days are basically therapy sessions with mattresses and bubble wrap.
