๐Ÿ”ฅ WHEN WILL THE HARASSMENT OF HAWKERS IN NAIROBI END?

We have received disturbing reports alleging that some Kanjo officers in Nairobi harass hawkers, confiscate their goods and, instead of returning those goods after arrests, allegedly demand bribes while benefiting from the confiscated merchandise.

If these allegations are true, when will this heinous and barbaric act end in our country?

Hawkers are Kenyans trying to earn an honest living. They work hard to pay rent, put food on the table, support their families and pay school fees for their children. For many, the goods they sell are their only source of income.

Taking away someone's goods can mean taking away their entire livelihood.

We are also concerned by what many residents perceive as the continued mistreatment of hawkers in Nairobi. These people deserve dignity, fairness and an opportunity to work.

Instead of constant harassment, the government should consider creating designated, affordable and accessible markets and trading spaces where hawkers can operate legally and safely.

We call upon the relevant authorities to investigate these allegations, ensure that confiscated goods are properly accounted for and returned where appropriate, and take action against any officer found abusing their position.

When will ordinary Kenyans be allowed to work and earn without fear?

Royans Media will continue raising questions, highlighting the concerns of ordinary Kenyans and demanding accountability.
