The VA has updated several appraisal requirements to help make VA offers more competitive and reduce unnecessary closing delays.

Highlights:
✅ Radon requirement removed from VA appraisal standards
✅ Chipped/peeling paint on homes built after 1978 is generally considered cosmetic
✅ Less scrutiny on detached garages, sheds, and other outbuildings
✅ Simplified guidance for older homes and certain heating systems

What this means:
🏡 Fewer appraisal-related repair requests
⏱️ Smoother transactions
🤝 Stronger VA offers in today’s market

VA loans still require homes to be safe, sound, and sanitary, but these updates remove several outdated requirements that often created unnecessary hurdles.
