Liberia’s small-scale gold mining sector is about to become cleaner and less toxic. Over the next 48 months, the sector is expected to reduce mercury use by 50 metric tons, avoid approximately 148,000 tons of CO2 through efficiency gains, and bring 10,000 hectares under improved practices and restoration.

In total, the project is expected to benefit 20,000 people, including 12,000 women, thanks to support from Global Environment Facility and implementation by African Development Bank Group.

Come join our team at the Global Wildlife Program at the The World Bank! We are recruiting two roles (fully remote, global) to deliver a range of knowledge programmes, events and coordination activities. I will post about the two roles in separate posts so I can attach the full ToR - see the first comment on this post for a link to the other opportunity.

Role 2: Consultancy for Knowledge Management and M&E Specialist,
Global Wildlife Program, World Bank

The Global Wildlife Program (GWP), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the World Bank, brings together 38 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean to combat wildlife crime, address unsustainable and high zoonotic risk wildlife trade and consumption, manage human-wildlife conflict, and build wildlife-based economies. With an investment of US$365 million GEF financing across three GEF phases (GEF-6, GEF-7, and GEF-8) and over $2 billion in co-financing, the GWP is one of the largest GEF programmatic investments in biodiversity conservation.

The GWP is a collaborative global program that facilitates connection across borders and the sharing of experiences, lessons, and best practices. The GWP coordination team at the World Bank is a team of technical specialists, knowledge management, communications and M&E specialists that work closely with GWP partners and participating countries to deliver the GWP knowledge platform.

For this role, The GWP is seeking a knowledge management professional with experience in M&E to join the coordination team and support the delivery of a dynamic and ambitious knowledge platform that inspires project teams to conserve wildlife in support of sustainable development.

The consultancy’s main tasks are to support the delivery of knowledge management and learning activities, including the design and delivery of events, publications, and workshops; support global coordination activities to support GWP country projects by organising meetings, supporting the formation of targeted communities of practice, and facilitating effective communications; and contribute to M&E activities to aggregate and assess programmatic and global coordination results and impact. To learn more, please review the full ToR.

When you apply, please indicate which role you are applying for. Applications close 15th May.

Please share with your networks!

Happy Gopher Tortoise Day! 🐢🐢🐢 Like sea turtles, gopher tortoises are also a protected species in the state of Florida. Unlike sea turtles, gopher tortoises DO NOT live in the salty ocean. Make sure to brush up on the differences between the two species below! (Yes, we realize there are a few caveats but a fun graphic nonetheless!)
